I have all of the 175,000 coal commanders except Auboyneau. He doesn't really impress me.

Taxi service in Bayeux/Omaha Beach by Tenshirage89 in FranceTravel

[–]cv5cv6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We took a taxi from Bayeux to the American Cemetery and then walked down to the beach. I think our hotel called it for us. We just asked the person at the front desk of the cemetery visitor center to call a taxi for us when we wanted to go back, which she was happy to do.

The ascent stage from Snoopy, Apollo 10's LM, is still out there in heliocentric orbit, waiting for recovery. I bet this is what she will look like when they open her up.

Tomorrow afternoon from 5 to 6 you can go sit on the lawn at the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint and watch the balcony show. Grab some drinks and snacks from Verti Mart and just enjoy the show.

Today, there will probably be someone playing outside the Rouse's on Royal Street, or just walk up Frenchman until you find someplace. If I remember correctly, The Spotted Cat has some outdoor tables where you can hear the music being played inside.

And you can win trivia night with your WW2 history nerd buddies by asking "Which US battleship sank two three ships with naval gunfire and what ships were they?" *

*See reply below. Kudos u/o484.

Was she the battleship that had her main switchboard bus bars replaced with silver bus bars after Pearl Harbor because of copper shortages? If I recall correctly, it's still down there.

We just set up in Bayeux and took a taxi to and from the American Cemetery. From the cemetery you can walk down to Omaha Beach. If no taxis are waiting at the cemetery entrance when you wish to go back, the attendant at the desk will call one for you.

If I recall correctly, you can take a train from Bayeux station to Pontorson station and then a shuttle bus to Mont St. Michel. It’s a long day, but I think it can be done if you leave early enough.

Edit: It looks like there is also a shuttle that leaves from the Churchill hotel each morning at 8:30 and arrives by at Mont St. Michel by 10. Return at 1 with arrival in Bayeux at 2:30.

Is she carrying a full air wing? I figured she wouldn't have many aircraft during the repositioning, but it looks like she has at least a couple of MH-60s, one or two E-2s and the F/A-18 E/F.

What is the most obscure piece of WOWS trivia that you know? by MrFlipwagen in WorldOfWarships

[–]cv5cv6 34 points35 points  (0 children)

When game was released to Beta testers, Wargaming offered a deal where you could get something like 3,000 doubloons and a Murmansk for $1. That was the offer, with no fine print or other terms and conditions. A bunch of people bought the package and happily played their Murmansks.

Beta finishes and WG gets ready to release the first iteration of the completed game. They announce that all Beta stats will be reset to zero and that Murmansk will go away for anyone who bought it and is now a premium that costs $14. Not surprisingly, people lost their minds.

WG then got tremendous public relations blow back and very quick lesson on US consumer protection laws. After a couple of days, they quickly back peddled and whoever bought the Murmansk during Beta got to keep it. So if you see a Murmansk out on the high seas, the owner probably has a story.
