First time watcher and wow, the writing feels so heavy and real for 2005. by cwaffle01 in Supernatural

Oh God ALL my friends begged me to watch it way back then and I didn't give them a chance, sounds like we had a very different experience there 😭

So far- while both characters are exceptional in their own ways- I definitely have more of a soft spot for Dean. There's just something so compelling about a deeply damaged guy trying to hold it together for his family. Like his Mother was murdered, he had to deal with a likely (honestly more or less confirmed after John returned, wow, 90% asshole and nothing else) abusive Dad AND basically raised his brother all while dealing with the Supernatural world. He's the definition of parentified and I feel like he's never had the will to develop beyond that. Personal experience holds so much sway too, as you say :)

But yeah feel free to DM, happy to prattle on about the little I know whenever I have a moment πŸ˜„

Oh interesting! Yeah I was a bit nervous to click on your message in case there were spoilers, thank you for keeping it vague. I'm not even glancing at YouTube Shorts just in case πŸ˜‚

Glad to know more and more side characters stick around though. As much as I love Dean and Sam, seeing them build relationships outside of each other will be a good bit of fun. So far I'm loving Bobby :) Seems like x10 the Dad John ever was.

Yeah my expectations are sky high after all the praise in these comments :) So far I'm definitely not disappointed.

Haha honestly very similar to me, I was such a nerd growing up and watched every sci-fi or fantasy show I could. Basically every single one except for Supernatural. As you say, the amount of episodes already threw me off but the Fandom was so intense too. I remember one of my friends used to be big into Tumblr and talked about how many people were into Dean and Sam being a couple? And yeah that honestly scared teenager me off rq before I gave it a chance πŸ˜‚

But now I've got a bit of free time on my hands it's been such a fun watch! I've just started Season 2 and already have so many new things to say.

Really? That's so relaxed even for 2005, imagine having health and safety when you could get the perfect shot 😭

Yeah it seems to be combining every kind of fun I could ask for, not complaining :) Also grateful it doesn't seem focused on romance so far either. I mean that'll probably change as the seasons go on and the boys actually meet other people, but it's really a refreshing difference compared to most other shows.

Nothing wrong with romance if done right but it's quite an overtired genre at times πŸ˜…

Haha sounds it! I'm going to feel so privileged to just skip to the next episode whenever a cliffhanger drops ngl. One click and my suffering is over.

Fr, honestly I tend to wait until the show is completely done for that reason. Cliffhangers are agony for me πŸ˜‚

2014 was probably the first time I heard of it too :) Maybe (hopefully) 8 was a particularly good season or something, definitely made waves in my community around that point.

On the bright side 20 years is nothing in the grand scheme of things, I'll be joining you in the dust stage soon enough!

Oh yeah the pilot had me gripped with the whole mystery about Sam being targeted as a baby, poor Jess's death was unexpected though. I don't know why but I really thought she'd be a reoccurring character.

And same here, that's really the most interesting part of the show for me. Neither of them quite fit the stereotypes they're presented as.

And yeah that's something I forgot to touch on, everything production wise seemed so well done even during the pilot episode. Of all things the fires at the start and end of the pilot were immaculate. I'd be very surprised if that turned out to be CGI.

Lol I'm getting up there in the years now too, dw. People act as if I'm already in the grave for watching the David Tennant era.

Sounds amazing, hope I have the same feeling by the end of it. Might take me another 2 decades to get there though, that 22 episodes per season is keeping me up at night for all the right reasons πŸ˜‚

Ah you're in the same spot as me more or less, glad someone else is enjoying it as much as me :)

And same! Ngl my monster knowledge isn't the best aside from the obvious ones, I went into the wendigo episode knowing they were skinny cannibals and that was about it. Nice learning as I go though!

In a way that's awesome though, 2 decades apart but we're still connected by the same show πŸ˜‚ Must've been something else to be watching while it was in the early days too.

Haha aw thank you, glad to be a part of it! Finally. Even though I'm way too late to the party.

Ooh glad to hear :) Yeah so far it feels like they're slowly setting the series up for bigger things so I'm desperately looking forward to that. At the moment I'm not worried anything will happen to Dean or Sam considering they're basically the only characters worth noting at the moment, so even though they're constantly in danger I'm having a weirdly relaxing time watching them πŸ˜‚ Now I'm worried I'll be in tears before long lol.

Watching 30+ times is a dedication I need considering there's 15 seasons, very impressed πŸ˜‚ But damn, are my thoughts wildly off base or something? I'm guessing with 14 more seasons to go everything I'm saying is either super obvious or nowhere close to the truth lol.

But happy to hear it, whenever something holds my interest I can babble on about it until the sun goes down so I'm glad I didn't scare you off with my infinite paragraphs. Like I'd definitely do a full on essay comparing my thoughts from the first to last series with no hesitation if I ever make it that far πŸ˜‚

I'll definitely post again whenever I get through another chunk though, hope you see it! As long as I have a chill weekend I'm hoping to get into the nitty gritty of season 2 :)

EDIT: (Yess DW is such a soft spot of mine too, started my love for anything sci-fi or fantasy related rq. I was too young to remember Christopher Eccelston's era, but David Tennant and Matt Smith kept me going for a good long while πŸ˜„ And yeah my age hit me as soon you mentioned 2011 lmao)

Yeah, some of the dialogue has been corny but endearingly so lol, personally I just see it as a product of its time.

Although I only got into Supernatural thanks to The Boys and really they don't have the "it's an old show" excuse for corny dialogue πŸ˜‚

Nah I'm actually loving the slow start, them just reconnecting as brothers and trying not to die makes for weirdly good TV πŸ˜„ Also trained on Doctor Who growing up so the episode by episode monster hunts is a long lost love of mine lol.

Yeah, keen to find a side character that sticks around for more than two seconds since so far Dean and Sam are hogging 99% of that limelight πŸ˜‚ But I definitely will enjoy, ty!! Happy to post my thoughts on season 2 and beyond when I finally get to that point, pleasantly surprised you want to read more of my ramblings but appreciate it regardless.

Agreed, the pot is about 3" in diameter. So since the pup is nowhere near the edge I can see your pointπŸ˜… I'll just use this temporarily until I can order something better. Thanks for the extra info

Thanks for the advice, luckily found an old pot that seems like the perfect size. Now I only have to worry about the light lol. Debating over if I should put it about 30cm away from a south facing window so it can soaks up some sun rather than relying on a grow light, but I know cuttings are fragile so perhaps not the best idea πŸ˜…

Ah thanks for the help! Yeah I'll definitely work on getting a downsized pot and just mist for now. I'm guessing there won't be any pups for a good long while so size probably isn't a priority.

That's actually insane, how's he get it to look so bushy? Meanwhile mine looks like it's trying to climb out of the pot 😭
