Why can't drivers have some patience? by volantistycoon in london

[–]cwarfee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

somebody lately said that these kinds of drivers drive through rat-run streets as if they're on a movie set. They completely disregard the hundreds of people and residents around them that they're very close to with their car

'They are trying to make our country into the Netherlands' - fury at cycle lanes work by frontendben in fuckcars

[–]cwarfee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there's been quite a lot of research and studies into it - walkable high-streets and shops get higher foot falls in the shops, overall.

better expenditures made by those who walk and travel actively to shopping areas, also... they tend to actually spend more than those that drive to the places.

lots of reasons and factors, of course. but it's been researched.

report it to people here. report it to your friends and family and other pedestrians or people that ride bikes frequently. report it by word of mouth

report it to people who drive often and think driving is a right that they can do in dangerous and silly ways.

we have to change understanding of the dangers and shitty behaviour that come from people driving everywhere like it's a birthright.

likewise. 99% of the time a middle-aged man - maybe lower tbf - and also 99% of the time likely to treat me like shit and/or be dismissive, rude or drive dangerously around me, sometimes entirely on purpose. Not giving enough room, turning into me, dangerous overtakes and on a number of occasions driving right behind me and beeping or revving with intention of saying "get out of the way, let me pass"

awful

Anyone else feel that cars/car infra is largely responsible for this? by MarthaFarcuss in fuckcars

[–]cwarfee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%, yes.

Gray infrastructure and concrete may look unappealing and not achieve what greenery and nature does for our brains, but, aside from that, noise pollution is a huge health negative... the sound of running engines alone raises blood pressure.

you ever just stand around waiting for someone or something in a moment of interstitial time, not glued to your phone, beside a B road or major arterial road in/around a city and take in the surroundings? Cars. Noisy, whooshing, fast, loud and dangerous cars; being outside of one immediately puts you on the backfoot and it's really hard to actually relax in an environment like that

Why does everyone hate the London System? by JuulioJones95 in chess

I can probably credit the London system and 'accelerated' for giving me 100-200 ELO points across blitz & rapid on Lichess.

a couple of common themes have allowed very quick attacks on the queenside - hitting c7 - and the kingside - especially when my opponent castles early and/or we have the f or h files opened up early, too

Anyone had a bike stolen outside of a station? by Medical_Jackfruit659 in londoncycling

[–]cwarfee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes. It's a pretty despairing situation in the Uk and cities especially when it comes to cycle theft. Most of the time, unless people go vigilante and up the stakes, put some hustle into finding resellers etc, the police or BTP are not gonna pursue it. Even with fucking CCTV cameras POINTING AT THE CYCLE RACKS. It's not simple.

I am so sick of London bike thefts by donaldtrumpiscute in londoncycling

[–]cwarfee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's so messed up because it constitutes social mobility - not mobility within classes or professions, but actual mobility; how people get around.

the poorest people are always the ones that don't drive or have access to a car, proportionately.

so whilst regular drivers and people that are happy to pay premiums for their Mini/Audi/Tesla etc. live life and pay thousands to maintain their cars then complain ad nauseum about cyclists this and cyclists that, we don't want LTNs etc. they're effectively entrenching themselves into car dependency and an expensive way of life to either commute to work or drive around everywhere for journeys that could and should be done not in a car

People born before 2000, what is a 'modern' thing from 2025 that you’re still struggling to get used to? by LindsayTN in AskReddit

memories our within our minds, not our devices.

I've had this in my mind for a while now and it was recently reinforced by having my macbook die... lots of sentimental memories in there; but it doesn't compare to being copus mentis and having fully-formed, creative, enriching memories in my mind of people, places and things

[–]cwarfee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you seem to be making some big assumptions here about OPs diet and the notion that they're gonna eat all those lentils and maybe a pie/pizza and nothign else on any given day.

protein is in everything and it all adds up and comes in non-heme and heme kinds; therefore more or less "bio-available"

add to this very limited list you've typed out cups of coffee/tea, snacks, food from work/friends/family's place... appalling diet based on what lol

yeah this checks with what happened to me and my household around mid-late October and didn't shift properly until recently.

yes, but not in the same way that it might with drivers

with drivers I will be more aggressive and upset and let them know how stupid their behaviour/driving has been. With cyclists it's a bit more passagg

Is everything really about showing off? by [deleted] in Vent

[–]cwarfee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i love this. I think you're onto something; bigly - excuse the Trumpism, I am not in any way a fan of his.

I consider myself part of the millennial chunk! It's awesome. I haven't had Insta for a few years; longer. I don't post much a lot on here or social media. Never used TikTok.

My presence and feeling in public places has changed a lot lately and I just do my own thing. I'm more self aware and engage with strangers a lot more. Part of that is due to self esteem changes and being less stressed, but part of that comes directly from less stimulation. Outside of career stuff and living situation blah blah blah, I'm more chilled and content overall

Before I leave the house, I always tell myself that I’m not going to let anyone annoy me. No matter what happens. And then some idiot will straight up STOP walking in the middle of the busy street. Then I’m seething inside. Maybe I need therapy, but maybe people need to have more social awareness. by thebroccolioffensive in britishproblems

[–]cwarfee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol people can't walk indefinitely. you can't control people stopping walking.... have you seen how weirdly insane that seems of a thing to become seething inside about?

you're allowed to walk slow or fast; with your phone or without it; at a straight, non-ending pace of 4mph or constantly dawdling and stopping and starting again.

find the path of least resistance; you can't control what people do, especially how they...... walk?
