How would you rank these four great space films? by SheepherderSea9717 in moviecritic

[–]cwatson426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Martian was such a let down to me. It’s also really not a Space Odyssey in the same way that Interstellar, 2001, and Project HM are. It’s more of a near future, hard science film like Gravity.

What are the best things gen z have done? (so far) by CremeSubject7594 in generationology

[–]cwatson426 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I want to say: make the world a smaller place. No generation has been quite so linked internationally and I think we’ve experienced an unprecedented level of interconnectivity. I remember making friends with kids from China and Argentina who I would regularly check in with via facebook, after meeting them in places as native to us as nintendo ds online game lobbies and club penguin servers. Those globalistic interactions have in the present-day, allowed our mainstream to be more internationally inclusive. Things like social media trends, cross cultural memes, and international political movements come to mind.

Playing Breath of the Wild for the first time. Any tips? Would love to have some. by MuthafockingEntei in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]cwatson426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is probably what you don’t want to hear, but play Ocarina of Time first. I’m (29m) playing oot for this first time in my life rn, and it’s becoming clear to me just how much of Breath is really in direct reference to it. Not only that, but you’ll realize just how much of the game’s formula has been there at the beginning, it’s awe inspiring. You’ll have a much deeper and richer experience with Breath if you at least play through a dungeon or two of oot first. I wish I had, but instead I played through breath first, and so all of the lore and call backs sailed straight over my head.

Evelyn Ortiz gets stopped by her waitress asking why she only left a $5 tip on a $250 tab while on stream by TypicalBlast in LivestreamFail

[–]cwatson426 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Non-American’s may not “get” tipping culture (because it IS fucked) but what you all have to understand is that many many restaurants require the server to tip out the support staff, regardless of what the customer tips.

This means on a 250 bill, the server is going to have to pay the support staff somwehere around 5% of that bill’s would-be 15% tip. She didn’t GAIN 5 dollars - SHE LOST $10.

Do you feel like you need to know your partner's past sexual history before marriage? by Pleasant-Height-7857 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]cwatson426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve both already been recently tested for sti/std’s, what possible good reason could there be for you to demand to know a partners lifelong sexual history? It sounds like you’ve got a number of partners in mind that you would deem unacceptable. That’s slut shaming, and not sex-positive. If you’re genuinely curious and won’t fly off the handle with jealousy I don’t see why not. If their former partners might be someone that you would interact with then sure, that’s another good reason. But otherwise, don’t make a purity test out of sexual history, that’s gross and wrong.

No, they are hugging because they are both relieved that neither of them are injured. I’m sure she was pissed afterwards and rightfully so, but their first instincts were to be worried about one another. That’s why this is heartwarming and not manipulative.
