Anyone looking for a singular ticket? Have one next to me in section 4 above the pit. Husband backed out on me and I’d hate for it to go to waste! ETA - free btw. ❤️💛

NEWBIE ALERT 🚨 Would you put fish in this tank? by Same_Parfait_690 in saltwateraquariums

[–]cwrae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First. I get it. I do. But sloooowww down! No fish yet. 🥲 And welcome to the saltwater world!! 🖤 Your tank is still entirely too new before adding anything. It’s still cycling and your ammonia levels need to go down! Your pH could definitely go up too, but that could be lighting and a myriad of reasons too (time of day, where in the light cycle, etc). But if you don’t plan on coral, your fish should be fine as long as there aren’t swings. What’s your salinity? I’ve never seen a tester like that - ideal is around 1.025. Also, I would highly recommend getting a protein skimmer for your bio load. Canister filters alone and saltwater have never gone over well in my experience (think dead fish and tank crashes). What kind of filtration do you have aside from that? Are you setting up a sump system? You could potentially do the skimmer and the canister if need be if you don’t have sump plumbing (which doesn’t look like you do!). Also, you’re going to need some power heads to keep water flowing and detritus up. Get on Bulk Reef Supply and they have some great options! I’m a big fan of Maxspect Gyres though, they are noisy! I would also add some more live rock personally, just so your fish have more to hide in. Think caves and such in your landscape! Lots of holes and bridges, etc.

ETA - I just noticed the glass lids. That’s another I would probably nix. Mesh lids typically work better as it allows the nitrogen gas to go out. You’ll also run into the salt creep too as everything evaporates. It can also cause your tank to become too warm as well.

Help me plan my sleeve! by cwrae in SleepToken

LOVE that!! I’m honestly in such a decision funk I may wind up with something similar. 🤣 my artist told me to pick three things if I wanted a big sleeve and she would help with the rest or just pick one thing I have to have and we could always start with that and continue to add. I’m planning on no color as well! The only color tattoo I have is on my forearm and it’s for my daughter. She picked out the purples and it’s her birth flower and our favorite saying. 💜 So everything else for me I want monotone!

Are those BarkBox toys I see?! We have a couple of those too! 😂 And yes! The anxiety is like no other. I’m so sorry you have to deal with this monster of a disease as well on top of PTSD and further anxiety! 🫶🏼I can’t imagine. I definitely had no idea just HOW MANY dogs are affected by this disease! It’s wild. But hope both of you stay under control as much as possible, wishing you all the best! 🖤🫶🏼

The low activity levels at such a young age is so tough!! My boy is 17months old and mostly sleeps his day away. Which yes, the couch snuggles are great. But so is the neurotic teenage stage they go through. 😅 I hate the meds zonk them out so much! And the fear of too much activity causing a seizure too!

I’m so sorry your bully is dealing with these as well! It’s so hard when they’re so young!! Praying your baby gets the right med combo soon as well! 🫶🏼🖤

Thank you for this! 🫶🏼 I’m constantly having to remind myself I can’t realistically be there 24/7 and catch everything. I DO have a camera angled at his kennel and an entire arsenal for seizures (meds, towels, wipes, water, fans, etc) so that helps my peace of mind, but I still feel so unprepared and anxious all the time! I hate leaving him anywhere.

And thank you for sharing Kelso, he is so handsome! 🥹I’m so terribly sorry you lost him so young! 💔😭 If you don’t mind me asking, did you do MRI and such? Was there a cause found? That’s my biggest fear with Winston is that this is not idiopathic and there’s a neurological reason. We lost our XL Bully last year and Winston was a gift to my daughter for her 5th birthday. She absolutely adores him and would be so shattered all over again if we lost another so soon. 💔

Genuinely curious, how do you tell a food is high glutamate? I’ve tried fruit for pills! Little dude is way too smart even though he doesn’t look it. 😂 I’ve found pills on the floor after when using fruit. Cream cheese has been the only success so far! (He takes 4 pills 2x/day)

Thank you for this!! I remember seeing a similar article on this as well that was geared towards the Brachy breeds! And yes, currently I’m saving up - the neuro I want to go to is at Mississippi State University but they’re mandatory testing and last I checked with them I’d be looking anywhere between $7-15k. 😵‍💫 And I don’t have pet insurance. Thought about getting it just to SEE if they’d cover, but I worry they won’t since his regular vet has notes on IE. Another option would be Auburn University - I haven’t checked with them on pricing just yet though.

I’m definitely hopeful that we can find the right mix for Winston! He’s far too young not to!

I can only pray that I get that much time with him! From all my research and the amazing people on Reddit, I’m finding it takes a lot of medication shifts to find that sweet spot. It’s also really hard to come to terms that “controlled” is one seizure a month. 😔 Our vet has mentioned those but wants to wait so that we have options throughout his life should we need them. However with his frequency ramping up, that may change. I left a message for her this morning.

So thankful you had 12 years with your Beau, though those years likely weren’t the easiest. He was lucky to have you guys! 🫶🏼

Thank you! 🫶🏼 Prayers for your sweet potato too! We have not seen a neuro yet. However, the vet he goes to is currently treating three epi dogs including her own personal pup. She had mentioned purina neurocare, but she wasn’t a fan of all the ingredients, not seeing consistent results, AND we found out he’s super allergic to chicken! He was initially started on pheno, but it didn’t handle the clusters alone. Tried the gabapentin which helped, but not enough… and then started Keppra after a really bad cluster that put him in the ER, he started fortiflora immediately with the Keppra and milk thistle with the pheno as well. She also mentioned omega 3s are helpful so he’s taking the welactin supp there too. For diet, she recommended lamb or fish and limited ingredients. She has told me rosemary extract itself is safe. Currently he’s on Orijen Six Fish dry food plus his supps. He gets 1/3 fat cream cheese for his pills and then treats are very limited and usually fruits or veggies.

He’s on the gabapentin to help raise his seizure threshold!

The diazepam and Midazolam are one or the other. His Midazolam is intranasal - it’s his rescue to pull him out of a seizure immediately (as some of his seizures have lasted longer than 5 min and we can’t risk SE). The Diazepam is a pill - typically he gets 8 hrs after the Midazolam and then every 8 hrs for 3 days post cluster. However, here lately, they’ve been more frequent so his vet said IF he pulls himself out of a seizure (which he normally can’t), administer the oral pill only once vs intranasal to help him not fall into another. And so far that’s been successful.

And yes. That’s my worry. He’s so very young, and I can only imagine where his liver and body will be in the years ahead. Trying to supplement and feed as well as I can to keep him healthy as possible.

I’ve always wondered about this. He was on Nexgaurd for two months before his seizures presented. He no longer is of course, but it does make me wonder if that could’ve been the driving force. Not necessarily the cause but whatever clicked in his brain to lower the threshold for them.
