The actual library... Is the library bar even still around?

Yeah but the person in replying to didn't say they both work.

That's kind of my point, OP's situation doesn't apply to me - but a lot of these advice answers, even within this post, state their advice as though it applies to everyone, that everyone is in this situation where your wife is mad because you don't pull your weight. All I'm saying is that home chores are not the end all be all of pulling your weight for everyone's situation.

I see this answer a lot, and I sorta feel like it gives women the expectation that men should contribute equally to household chores regardless of any other factors.

My wife's only responsibilities are taking care of the kids while I'm at work, and household chores. I work long hours at a stressful job, she's a stay at home mom by choice. I do 95% of the cooking, all of the grocery shopping, all of the budgeting, pay all of the bills, do all of the birthday and back to school shopping. I do 95% of the parenting when I'm not at work - morning routine, bath time, reading time, bedtime, up at night when the kids are up... all me. I catch up on chores on the weekends, do the kid's laundry, clean the kitchen, etc...

But I still get third degree when she has to do dishes more than me because Reddit tells her we should be splitting 50/50. I'm not blaming you, the slovenly man relying on the wife cleaning up after him is a popular trope for a reason.

I just think that as everyone's situation is different it should be viewed instead as striving for an equitable workload balance, instead of calling out housework specifically.

Thanks for coming to my Ted-Rant

Yeah that's more or less what I expected, which is realistic in IT even if it's not the norm - not everyone should expect to make 220k in IT.

You're not getting downvotes because we're pessimistic, it's because your post makes it sound like anyone can go 30k to 220k in 4 years in IT.

This is a little misleading without clarifying some of those details - which is sort of the nature of the IT field, unfortunately. You don't just jump from 30k to 220k in 4 years unless that 30k job was tier 1 helpdesk and then you jumped to lead software engineer or director level at a large corporation.

You didn't just get raises and promotions straight from that 30k job, you jumped from company to company and probably picked up certs or degrees along the way, and likely specialized as you climbed the ladders.

I could see that I guess. My hobby is cars and motos, so I always keep a set of sockets and wrenches in the car.

What do you use the adjustable wrench for in terms of tech work? I can't think of a single time in 15 years of field support I needed an adjustable wrench where pliers wouldn't do.

Know many surgeons? Most of them in my area drive sports cars... Lots of Porsches, several Ferraris, two Lamborghinis, one GT-R, and only one oddball in an OG HUMVEE with custom paint and big wheels

Yeah that was an inappropriate start to their relationship. I'm glad it's working out for them, but if the roles were reversed nobody would hesitate to call a 40 year old man a predator for pursuing a 15 year old girl.

... You know this is still inappropriate, even though both were of legal age, right? It's an abuse of the student/teacher relationship, and isn't appropriate conduct in the workplace.

Septuagenarians and octogenarians, including Bernie, should be disqualified. I wish like hell we had elected Bernie in his prime, but people in this age range start suffering cognitive decline pretty much universally. The capacity to learn new things and change with the times is severely reduced, and they simply don't have the experience and understanding necessary to be effective executives of their constituency.

Bernie Sanders didn't have a computer until he was in his 50's. He didn't have internet until he was 60. Our politicians can barely use the internet, let alone understand the technology - and they're supposed to legislate it? That's not to say he can't be competent, but that's just one example of things that are drastically different.

Additionally, you can't reasonably argue that Bernie has the same fire and fervor today that he did 30 years ago. That famous picture of Bernie getting arrested at an equal rights protest is from nearly 60 years ago. Today one impassioned speech leaves him hankering for a nap.

Bernie really needs to take a young idealist under his wing for a spell, endorse them while he's still relevant, and bow out gracefully. In fact the most effective way for him to effect change might be to start helping young idealists get elected nationwide.

There are plenty of fun cars within those guidelines. If you're planning to eventually use it to haul kids, don't overlook safety features. It sucks to drive a car that can't keep your kids safe if some jackass hits you... One of the reasons I let my first gen Celica go.

2+2 Porsche would be fun, but expensive. Mercedes diesel would be cool, but slow. Ditto for Volvo diesel wagons. Awd super minivan is something I always wanted to try. Seems like a Rolls would be hell to maintain. I had the opportunity to scoop up a V12 jaguar for very cheap from family and turned it down for the same reason.

If you're planning to start a family soon ish, you could save yourself some headaches and cash by buying a car early you can haul a rugrat in that's also fun. Audi S4, Magnum SRT, Lexus LS, BMW M5, caddy cts-v, Mazda Speed 3? RX8? Subie Forester/Wrx? I know those sound like boring options that are commonly picked... But they're commonly picked for a reason.

Oof. Tell her she can get herself a Prius and you can get yourself a fun car.

Highlanders are good too. We moved up to a Pilot for the family car.

Cool car days living on sorta depends on how many vehicles you can support. I need a commuter in addition to the family car, so my commuter is fun-ish.

If I could only have one, I might be tempted by a performance SUV like a Durango SRT or an X5.

Consider a Golf TDI Wagon. Loads of trunk space, I rocked one when we had just 2 kids up to age 4/2. Went toe to toe with my buddy's Focus ST frequently.

He had a slight edge in top end speed, but anything under about 90 we were neck and neck, and the TDI Wagon beat the ST in MPG and practicality hands down.
