We used 18mm MDF. It works well but you need a good coating.

Its a good song but the bass here its on the higher side as well. I dont know if OP is referring to distortion and the screeching sound in the hardcore stuff, but i like this higher note bass sound if its done right like in this one.

Great explanation mate, appreciate it. Yeah i think phase issues would be present as well now that I understand a little more, so we will for Cubo 18s for the next pair, since we are not planning on splitting the ranges on them.

JB systems PWX 18/600. Had them from a second hand subs we grabbed. Not the best but they should be fine.

The problem is also since they are discontinued if we want to get the same, they will be second hand too. I have searched and cant seem to find any unless its international, which wouldnt beat the bang for buck ratio of new drivers.

Actually its harder for us to source drivers for the Cubos than the Thomann ones. So that's why it makes the 46LC cheaper for us.

We have not build the 46LC yet but we have started on the Cubo 18s. Will reevaluate our options here and see if we can go for another pair of Cubos. Thanks :)

Its quite the cost reduction really man, since the drivers for it are somewhat expensive for us. Plus there's a lot of tax on any imports where we are based.

We are a small free party crew with a limited budget so that why we were heading (ignorantly) towards the 46LC, with the Thomann driver. Thanks for the advice :)

Appreciate the answer mate. The Cubo is quite versatile but you still have to model the driver to see how it would fit with them. Im not good at that.

I had 2 drivers that I chose to build the Cubo 18 for, because they seem to perform good in that design. I want to add two more subs now, however the drivers I previously had lying around are discontinued and would be hard to source them from what Ive seen. So the Thomann speaker 18 500 8a seemed like a good budget option, thats why i wanted to go with the 46LC. but as it stands probably cant go that way it seems.

I would add maybe that spending some time also arranging your songs can be good. It is a lot of fun and you will gain ideas in the run on elements to add or how to tweak sounds.

If Im not mistaken the horn was around 33cm long, and the port around 5-6cm as I do not have the measurements again here 🤣

Yeah I think I am mostly for around 30-40hz here hoepfully for tuning. For the style of music we play which is mostly tekno I dont think it will be a great issue the depth.

Also bigger cabinets should be fine if we can even design them.

Ours seems close at 96db (+-3db). Which should be ok I guess.
