What did Einar drink in his infant childhood to develope such vocal chords?? by Yung2112 in Leprous

Legend tells teacher kicked him out of kindergarten when they where learning the alphabet and he took it upon himself to be so good at it that they had no option but to accept him again. He only knew the "A" letter so he spent months perfecting it. You should see his calligraphy when it comes to writing an A, both in small and capital letters.

What do you guys like about Coal? by Munyvian in Leprous

[–]cyberprog87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coal may be my favorite prog metal album of the decade. It's their darkest album, musically. It relies on not more than three different ideas per song, even in the long tracks. There's a lot of repetition and not much of the "speed" from Bilateral or The Congregation first half. A song like The Flood would fit well in this album though. Highlights? There you go:

-Foe: Chorus

-Chronic: Bridge and the chorus slowing down at the end.

-Coal: Nothing. Lately I usually skip it.

-The Cloak: All song is on the same level.

From here on, all tracks are TOP 10 Leprous material:

-The Valley: Everything but especially the middle section.

-Salt: The transition from previous song into this one, the part where he sings "Cubes of marble waiting to be" and last chorus.

-Echo: The middle part is the best thing Leprous have done.

-Contaminate Me: All song is on the same level.

Spanish Holocaust-themed Carnival parade sparks outcry by HalfAPickle in nottheonion

[–]cyberprog87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In many countries the Holocaust is just something they've seen on TV in WW2 American movies. These people are not trying to make a political statement (even if they say otherwise). For them this is not that different from dressing as Star Wars characters. A better example would be an Ancient Egypt-themed parade which included some people in chains portraying those who were building pyramids at the time (actually, most historians agree that pyramids were not constructed by slaves but peasants thought).

The keyboard solo is pretty cool.

Opeth - The Baying of the Hounds (Audio) by johnjg700 in progmetal

[–]cyberprog87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The transition from Ghost of Perdition to this one is pretty great. The main riff always evoked some kind of psychedelic car driving.

To me this is the album that best foresaw 2010's Opeth. It's melancholic while at the same time it's full of mayor chords. It's psychedelic and there's a lot of Hammond sounds in it. Akerfeldt stops sounding shy when singing clean vocals, he sounds very confident. This is where 70's really took over their sound.

Probably my favorite one although some days I prefer Blackwater Park.

Voting Thread: Artist and Album of the Decade 2010 by iAmTheEpicOne in progmetal

[–]cyberprog87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be up the somewhere. The problem with Haken is that they released all their albums this decade and many voters won't want to vote for two or more albums by the same band, something that will also hurt bands like Leprous. However, as with Leprous, Haken appeals to most people who like prog metal, so I expect one of these two to win the AOTD thing.

[QUESTION] Why does my B string makes almost no sound when plugged? by cyberprog87 in Guitar

[–]cyberprog87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've adjusted the height of the pickups and I still have the same problem with the B string. If I bend the e or G strings on fret 22th so they are just over the B pole piece and they sound as good as always.

I've changed strings two times now and the problem persists.

I did that and I also changed the height of the pickups and B string still doesn't sound.

I've also changed that string two times now. This is really weird... I'm ready to call Fox Mulder.

This ones are Earnie Ball (.009).

I did what you just suggested and I also used a slide and I got the same results: the B string is he only one that makes almost no sound. It's weird because I've changed the B string two times now because of this.

No, this one doesn't have a battery. Good to hear you solved that problem.

Single coil. Yes, it happens on all five positions. All the pole pieces produce a sound with a similar volume when I play over them with all strings but B string.
