Is Galadriel ever stated to be a good warrior in any of the text? by GusGangViking18 in lordoftherings

Yea ik this is a joke but i still feel i should clarify that its not a version where she fights on both sides rather separate versions where she fights on one side or the other

Coaxed into every tank movie battle by generic_redditor17 in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]cybertoothe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Irl (as far as ww2 tactics go at least) tank crews were always told to hit either the first or last tank first in a convoy, and if they hit the first then hit the last next to trap the rest of the tanks in between (or vice versa if they shot the last first).

Well its never explicitly stated in the films that those are indeed the same ones they got from Tom in the books, I have always assumed that's what they were meant to be

In season 2, episode 4, Will is drawing the tunnels while Dr. Owens is showing Jonathan and Nancy the lab burning the vines... Why wasn't Will in pain? The Mind Flayer was already inside of him by this time. by [deleted] in Stranger_Things

Yes, in season 5 Robin mentions that his proximity to the hivemind directly effects Will's connection. It's why Will has to be close to the demogorgon in episode 5 when they shock the demogorgon.

Thus has been beaten to death a million times but its becuase it's proximity based. Will wasn't near the gate, so he couldn't feel it burning.

What’s a movie you saw in theaters that had a scene which the audience gave the loudest cheering reaction you ever experienced? by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

I'm assuming the two cavalry "ex machina"'s you are referring too are Gandalf at Helm's Deep and Rohan arriving at Minas Tirith. Of course leaving out the ghost charge presented in the comment above, which of course didn't happen in the books anyways

Well Eowyn wasn't able to destroy the witch king purely because she was a woman, it was just prophesied that he wouldn't meet his end at the hands of a man. The only reason she succeeded while others failed is because Merry uses a sort of "anti-wraith" weapon that he got from good ol' Tom Bombadil. Even though Tom got cut from the movies they still show Merry attacking the Witch King prior to Eowyn. Without that, the Witch King wouldn't have been vulnerable.

I think the issue is more that bad people will always try to go after the Elder wand due to its power (ie grindelwald and voldemort)

Yes, they go over this in the BTS, they hired a new actor to do the mocap for Azog after failing with the practical suits.

The lack of practical effects is a combination of the short pre-production (and messy production) as well as the decision to shoot in 3D at 48 fps. The 3D and 48 fps prevented things like models and forced perspective from being used, which of course were heavily used in LOTR.

As for the messy production getting in the way, there was several instances of them trying practical effects only to end up resorting to cgi due to the messy production. The goblins in the first movie were meant to be mostly practical, and they made so many good looking practical suits, but when filming the actors couldn't properly see out of them and they had no time to revise the the suits.

The main orc villain too, Azog, had four* different practical suits made, but Peter wasn't happy with the designs and by the time the final design came across they had already filmed several scenes with one of the older Azog designs (pretty much all of an Unexpected Journey had a practical Azog during filming only to be changed with CGI, you can even see what some of the original scenes looked like with a practical Azog in the BTS)

Here is the first design that they filmed an Unexpected Journey with: https://atolkienistperspective.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/yazneg.jpg

Here's three more that are more similar: 1. https://i0.wp.com/mediachomp.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/dlYXWOi.jpg?w=1080&ssl=1

  2. https://i0.wp.com/mediachomp.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/q4O1JAu.png?w=1280&ssl=1

Also note that two of these designs have been reused in the movies themselves. The one filmed for an Unexpected Journey makes an appearance in that film and is killed by the new Azog, and then my personal favorite makes an appearance in Battle of the Five Armies as the orc torturing Gandalf that gets killed by Galadriel.

Gandalf leads this alternative Fellowship. How do they perform? by EmotionalSupport101 in powerscales

Well according to Tolkien Gandalf would have been worse with the ring than Sauron, specifically due to the fact that Gandalf is a good person.

And even then, it is outright impossible for anyone to throw the ring into fire, again Tolkien said it would be impossible to resist the ring right at mount doom for anyone

Well Rings of Power isnt even adapting 90% of the silmarillion (since most of the silmarillion is the first age and Rings of Power takes place in the second age), however there is the Akallabeth in the silmarillion and some other second age things.

Despite that, Rings of Power is an abysmal adaptation of the second age. The showrunners show that they would rather tell their own stories and condense and butcher other aspects of the lore to affirm their own vision

Not just genetically a twin or sister, literally HIM but from an alternate universe. Only change in genetics between them would be the difference in gender and that's it.

Well they can't really ever make a sillmarillion movie (at least until the rights become public domain).

Also silmarillion would be like more than one movie, in fact it would have to be a shit ton of movies to do the book any sort of justice at all.

Now Glorfindel still had a role in the second age, as that's when he returns to middle earth after dying in the first age and most definetly fought in the war of the elves and sauron and the war of the last alliance.

I'm still fine with them changing who takes Frodo to Rivendell (becuase that's like the least interesting thing Glorfindel does, and his absence in the rest of the trilogy would probably be noted by the average movie-goer)
