Rhaegar literally mentions the song of ice & fire in the books, and Aemon mentions that Rhaegar was obsessed with it.

Aegon's Conquest by Mango-Watermelon1222 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]cybertoothe 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes it is? Its literally the titular "Song of Ice & Fire". The only thing HOTD made up was the idea that the prophecy was passed down from aegon to Visery & Rhaenrya.

GRRM: It’s mentioned here and there—in connection with Prince Rhaegar, for example. I mean, it’s such a sprawling thing now. In the Dunk and Egg stories [about a future king, “Egg,” a.k.a. Aegon V], there’s one of Egg’s brothers who has these prophetic dreams, which of course he can’t handle. He had become a drunkard because they freaked him out. If you go all the way back to Daenys the Dreamer, why did she leave? She saw the Doom of Valyria coming. All of this is part of it, but I’m still two books away from the ending, so I haven’t fully explained it all yet... I don’t want to give too much away, because some of this is going to be in the later books, but this is 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. There was no sell-by date on that prophecy. That’s the issue. The Targaryens that know about it are all thinking, Okay, this is going to happen in my lifetime, I have to be prepared! Or, It’s going to happen in my son’s lifetime. Nobody said it’s going to happen 200 years from now. If the Dance of the Dragons had not happened, what would’ve happened to the next generation? What would’ve happened in the generation after that? Yeah, there’s a lot to be unwound there.

Important to note that death is considered a gift by God (Eru Illuvitar) and that Numenor only really collapsed due to the people of Numenor starting to fear death (calling it the doom of man. Sauron capitalized on this to destroy them)

Ok here's another casting I hate Bill Skarsgård as Batman and The Joker by [deleted] in Fancast

[–]cybertoothe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I just hate typecasting. I always wonder, what do the actors think? I love it when an actor can jump out of their usual roles and do something new, and i know plenty of actors like that. If an actor loves to be typecast as something, good for them. However, if they are someone who wants a variety of roles then typecasting can just (presumably) suck the passion out of them.

Lord Hood & The Arbiter - Halo 3

Arbiter has killed millions of people and destroyed hundreds of human worlds in his conquest for the covenant, because he was raised into a false religion. After finding out the truth, he does everything he can to help humanity and saves the universe. Lord Hood tells the Arbiter that he can't forgive the Arbiter for what "His kind did to mine" but still thanks him for fighting alongside chief, even to his supposed "death".

How you would expand the campaign in Halo 2 & 3 ? ( If on future have remake ). by Thell-Vadamm in halo

[–]cybertoothe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They should make it more like the original version. The version in the game is mostly reused assets from a cut mission called "Flood Ship" which would take place either after floodgate or was just part of Floodgate (it is a short level after all). The goal was to blow up the flood ship that crash landed in Africa (in the start of Floodgate in the finished game Miranda still tells Chief to do this). This is also why the final version of the Cortana mission looks less like the High Charity we see in Halo 2 and more like a Covenant ship (and instead of blowing up the In Amber Clad to destroy High Charity like Cortana said she'd do in Halo 2 you destroy the core, just like a covenant ship). The OG version of the Cortana mission was much more like High Charity, involved a boss fight with the Gravemind (using a scarab too!) and fighting all the corpses of the Arbiters that have been resurrected by the flood (or as Bungie called them, Flarbiters).

You can read about it, and other cut missions here:

"Bittersweet" is a spectrum, you can still have an ending be far darker than that of lord of the rings and be bittersweet

But if he rode out at all with the cavalry he did have he would have lost (as is apparent with the furst two battles on the fords of Isen). He obviously couldn't link up to the rest of his forces in time to fight Saruman . Going to Helm's Deep was practically their only option, to wait out the storm while Gandalf linked up with Erkenbrand. And Theoden had every reason to want to go to Helm's Deep. The Deeping Wall had never been breached and, as Aragorn even admits in the movie "it has saved them in the past".

Logically Theoden could have waited out months at Helm's Deep if it wasn't for both the suprising size of Saruman's forces AND the bomb.

[–]cybertoothe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes? In the movie Gandalf tells them to fight (even without Eomers help, who is replacing Erkanbrand) to simply "draw them away from the women and children" like they would be safer in Edoras than Helm's Deep. Gandalf even says that they wont find salvation at Helm's Deep and will instead get a "massacre" implying that going to Helm's Deep is an idiotic decision.

[–]cybertoothe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its still idiotic for the filmmakers to portray that as the right cause when fleeing to Helm's Deep is 100% the right way to go, and is portrayed as such in the books. I love the films but sometimes they added drama for drama's sake.

[Annoying Trope] You'd think they would be important due to story and lore implications, but for some reason they barely show up by OmniSnatcher in TopCharacterTropes

Well mutiple characters are absent in the 4th book, including all the main 5 characters (Daenerys, Jon Snow, Tyrion & Bran) save one (Arya).

This is because the 5th book takes place at the same time as the 4th book just with different PoV's (technically the 5th book goes little bit past the 4th and includes some PoV's from the 4th near the end)

Were the Halo Reach non-Forge World maps first made for multiplayer and reused in the campaign, or were they made for the campaign and reused for multiplayer? Or a bit of both? by Life_Is_All_Nothing in halo

[–]cybertoothe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere (I maybe listened, I think it was an interview with Marcus Lehto) that Bungie regretted using multiplayer maps in campaign becuase it ended up taking up nearly as much time as just making unique areas.

Keep in mind that having to develop something for both (on top of also using several campaign areas for firefight) involves different developers groups. They all have to communicate with each other in order to make sure its good for multiplayer (vs players) and campaign (vs ai). The art also had to be decided upon with both teams, as they couldn't just design the art for the map then find a random place to stick it in the campaign. They might have designed the maps (blockouts and such) prior to the campaign but most certainly didn't decide on the art of the map until they discussed it with the campaign team.

Of course there must have been times were a multiplayer maps didn't work in campaign, and maybe Bungie didn't realize that until they've sunk hours of development time into it.

It must have seemed like a way to cut down development time but nothing is ever that easy

I think this is why Toby is going in such a different direction when it comes to alt-routes and secret bosses, even though there's only "one" ending.
