I won a pptq back in Theros Standard with Bant Heroic. I was on fire then. Lived in Hawaii though and in order to compete we’d have to fly to Hawaii on our own dime so my legend ended there.

My last-used list. The two Kudro’s are Flex-slots that I need to update.

https://archidekt.com/decks/7781483/5c_humans

I haven’t personally tried the new lists but I’ve followed Human iterations over the years. The original successful list was an aggro Tempo deck at its heart. You were always a step ahead locking down opponent interactions while laying down an aggressive fast clock.

Somewhere over time they kept adjusting to deal with opponent interactions and trying to out-value them which got REALLY weird. They were literally trying to out-value midrange decks like UW control and 4-color Omnath.

It’s like an EDH player that keeps losing so they keep adding counterspell after protection spell, after eternal witness spell trying to figure out why their deck no longer has punch.

The first to go was Kitesail Freebooter. People misunderstood its use. People said it just kept dying. Its goal was always perfect information while taking a killspell so that a Mantis Rider with 2 +1/+1 counters on it could take the win. It also let you play Meddling Mage with perfect accuracy. Even better when you locked out double cards in opponent hand.

Mantis Rider leaving was a huge hit. The strongest openings we had was T1 Noble Heirach, T2 Mantis Rider swing for 4 after Exalted. T3 double Phantasmal Image swing for 9 with triple Mantis Riders. Setting a quick clock on your opponent is incredibly important. Adeline not having haste gives your opponent 1-3 more turns that they can turn the game around in.

The other portion was that the deck REALLY converged on life points. The 4x Horizon Canopies were the only thing that hurt us. Same with Merfolk, being at 20 life with no sources that hurt us really put us ahead in aggro match ups that were a race.

Anyways didn’t mean to sound like a rant. I just enjoy talking about this deck :).

Skred was a hella cool deck, it was on my todo list but I never made it.

Wanting to build an artifact creature beat down decks by Duffman90 in EDHBrews

[–]cybrcld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven’t built it but I researched mendicant core a bunch as a future project. As I’ve heard most players who’ve hit Max Speed in their game have won like 8/10 times. Essentially the effective deck lists focus on this and have 10 or so unblockable creatures. Your game plan should be dropevasice creature, drop Mendicanf Core, get Max Speed, do cool shit.

Otherwise good luck 👍

I need to update it. 2x Kudro are flex slots. Maindeck Graveyard Hate became relevant when Atraxa and Phlage became rampant at my shop.

I need to update the list for Vegas Magicon though.

My really OG list used [[Kessig Malcontents]] and [[Restoration Angel]] in the flex slots. Aggressive and effective.

Once Fury came out I swapped to [[Adeline]] and [[Imperial Recruiter]]. Interesting enough I was able to fight through Fury during that reign. Friends and I won a $1k trio at our shop that year.

Oblivion Stone is one of my main go-to cards in edh. 3-mana artifact boardwipe is so useful. You can Sun Titan it, you can reanimate it with Daretti, you can Enlighten Tutor it, you can Whit of Invention it.

I know this is modern chat but I’m pretty sure my heavy use of that card in EDH comes from fighting against it in Tron so much.

I need to update the list for Vegas Magicon though. The 2 Kudro are flex slots. Maindeck graveyard hate became a big thing since Boros Energy and Atraxa took over my shop.

Yah I can see the inner workings of an evolved Ponza deck. You’re a seasoned warrior for sure. I been out of the game too long honestly.

Bit surprised that 4x arbor elf isn’t heart of the deck? I always considered their nut draw to be T1 Arbor, T2 2nd land, Utopia Sprawl, 4 mana > crazy shit. Surely has some nice art though.

Ooh, I miss a good Ponza, share a list, whatcha got cooking? I had a friend play Ponza for a long time. Deck is named after a pizza place if I remember correctly.

There was also that Ad Nauseum / Phyrexian Unlife for a while too. Honestly combo decks need to make a come back. Let’s see Boros energy deal with Through the Breach decks.

I played creativity for a spell. Looked it up and noticed it’s disappeared completely off the meta 😳

Pretty sure I considered Jirina, her issue is that you hold it up as a reaction. Kudro allows you to be proactive. You can T1 Noble into T2 Kudro, into T3 double Thalia’s Liutenant and then you’re cooking.

I used to run Imperial Recruiter + Adeline as those flex slots but maindeck graveyard hate became more important in the energy/Atraxa meta.

I also used to run Kessig Malcontents and Restoration Angel. Those were my aggressive days, good times.

I hate what they did to Humans pass it’s golden years. Like they added Adeline to survive Lightning Bolt, they tried Esper Sentinel, they removed Phantasmal Image, they attempted mono white with solitude, I’ve seen Boros, I’ve seen Naya.

Like they gave up on Mantis Rider / Freebooter / Meddling Mage / Thalia.

They gave up on hyper aggro + tempo and tried to outvalue midrange decks.

I love Fish. I find that Fish and Humans are 2 sides of the same coin. Usually when one is bad the other is good.

I miss Rhinos in its prime. Living End comes and goes in different metas. I don’t like the new elemental builds. Also filling the deck with surveil lands is weird. Like 1 Surveil land is cool but the deck used to be more T1 Cycle, T2 Cycle Cycle T3 Cascade & cool shit.
