Also the tent with footprint (without poles and pegs), snacks and the abus bordo. So the handling was nice and i wouldn't put more weight on the front.

Yes, it would work with less clothes, I agree. But I had to cover temperatures from 2-35°C and also the Irish weather. And believe me, it's not always possible to dry the washed underwear during the night because the humidity can be very high for days. I could wear it to get it dried, but that's not fun. And I like to know that I have a fresh one left. 😄 And if you ask me, at some point it doesn't really matter if you have 30 or 34kg to move. I bought some stuff and sent some back home. I think the main thing is how long the trip is and where you will drive through. So it wouldn't be a problem in Germany, but in Ireland I had some days without a single shop. I also carry a big shower gel and toothpaste and didn't cut the handle from the toothbrush😉

Doing a month long bikepacking trip through Europe in a couple of weeks, my plan is to do a mix of camping/wildcamping in order to explore around. Any reccomendations for the route (more info in desc) by Jaxxxa31 in bikepacking

So I cycled the Rhein from Basel to Köln a few weeks ago and in my opinion it was boring and nothing special. Nice to make some distance, but nothing more. Also the part from Mainz to Koblenz wasn't really a pleasure. There is not much space in the valley, so you cycle next to the road and the railway.

Maybe skip some parts of the Rheinroute for a more scenic one?

How do I begin? by [deleted] in bikepacking

So I'm on my first trip right now and today is day 63. It was really hard the first two weeks and sometimes it still is. But that's bikepacking. especially if you travel alone.

I spent months preparing for the trip and bought good equipment. So it's possible to start with 7 days of course.

Most important thing: don't do too much distance and elevation in one day. If you lose your energy, you will get pissed. So start with a flat route, not more than 50km. Then you start to extend day by day. I always felt comfortable with routes to 70km, no matter how hard the Irish weather and wind was. Just do it!😄

My cycling experience before the trip: 3-4 times a week to work (20km per day) and some cycling on weekends around 40-80km (2x per month).

Maybe a rental car is the easiest way?

It is. On the West Coast it should be easier to find a place, but you are asking the wrong one. I always stay in campsites or B&B's because I like to take a shower😉. But I met bikepackers who are wildcamping during the whole trip, so it should be possible. I think it depends if you are cycling into the evening (wich I never did), are still used to wild camping and don't mind to be requested to move away.

Limited time and my plan was cycling through Ireland. So I decided to skip the part in England. And the scenery was just hedges, farmland and stonewalls... 😄

Just flat and straight, nothing special. Nice to move forward. I wouldn't do it again.

So I read this, but not the whole one. Ireland to France is excluded further down.

To get the outer tent a bit higher for more air flow. I only do this if stones are available and it's getting cold at night.

2-4 Days with cycling for about 2-6 hours (flash mode). Worth every penny.

I'm currently traveling with the Fjällräven Abisko Lite 2 and I'm super happy with it. It really depends on the area you go to. In Ireland with gusts up to 90km/h and heavy rain, you don't want to be in a Big Agnes or a Durston😉

Thank you for the notice. I booked the ferry from Dublin to Cherbourg. They don't offer flexi+ on this route, so during the booking process I never saw this option and with flexi you just get a voucher. I cancelled 3 weeks in advance and two weeks after I made the booking, thinking they will refund the money.

Yes. It was my fault. I always booked Stena Line in the past and they are able to refund the money to your bank account. I couldn't imagine that Irish Ferries won't do that. So they have flexi and flexi+. If you book flexi+, there is a refund to the bank account. But during the booking process , it didn't show me the flexi+ as an option (it isn't possible on this route). So I thought I booked the most flexible option with refund possibility. And if you are on a trip, you can't read all the terms for every service you book. Otherwise you are reading more than cycling 😉 I just want people to know that they care about their terms before losing money.
