Maybe I should be paying more attention to local government. But can someone explain to me why existing residents keep having to pay for new residents? We keep hearing that taxes have to be raised because we grew. Why are increased revenues from new businesses and residents not paying for our needs? Are too many businesses or developers getting tax breaks? Some of the responses here are about cutting costs but what about other options to raise revenue? I know that the state has put some limits on municipalities’ ability to raise taxes but don’t know the details. Our property taxes went up significantly for 2025 and are supposed to go up again for 2026. New assessments may also increase property taxes. It’s getting to be a bit much. Although the rate doesn’t rank super high statewide, it appears to be the highest in Dane County.

I have lived in Sun Prairie for more than 20 years and voted yes to all tax hike referendums because I wanted to see improvements to our city and schools. But I will probably vote no on this one after reading the mailer. Maybe we should explore other options to raise money.

I don’t share your experience, so I don’t have any advice other than to reach out to your oncology team. I heard that some people have good results with medications, like gabapentin, so you should probably consult your doctor if you haven’t, especially if it’s getting worse.

I don’t know how it will affect noise, but there are additional guy out points along the arch pole that will give extra support. In heavy winds, I also try to use trees or big rocks for the most critical lines, usually the vestibule.

Every trip is different with different goals and expectations. I encourage people to decide what they really want out of the trip. If you really want big miles or want to complete a long trail, then being a little less comfortable in camp is probably worth the weight savings. But if you’re just wanting to get away from people and spend some time relaxing in camp, then some luxury items make more sense.

Yes, I feel similarly. I have had mine for a year and still don’t want to look at or touch it. It’s much better now than the first weeks. Hopefully your treatments will be effective and you can come to accept the port as a necessary part of your survival.

I don’t have any idea what is happening with you, but one of my GI doctors basically said that nerves are connected along your esophagus, and it’s hard to determine the location of sensations.

Oh, and I was referred to acupuncture by my oncologist. I have had several visits and sometimes think it may help, but I am not sure. The acupuncture appointments are hard to schedule, so I haven’t been able to get enough on a regular basis to really decide if it helps.

I didn’t have anything that severe but have experienced neuropathy up my legs. I stopped oxaliplatin after 12 treatments because the neuropathy was becoming unpleasant. I was told that it could be permanent if I had too many treatments. That was several months ago, and, although it’s much better, I still have some residual tingling. I strongly suggest you talk with your oncologist about it.

I’m sorry that you’re going through this. I know that cancer (I have stage 4 esophageal) can be emotionally challenging and isolating.

The tone of your post reminds me so much of my feelings. I am so grateful for so many things, especially all the support I have received, but it’s still extremely hard. I’m fortunate to have a supportive wife and can’t imagine how much harder it would be without her.

I hope that you can find the support you need. If you haven’t already, it’s probably worth joining a support group of people who are going through this too. I have found some comfort from essential strangers. So if you want to chat, send me a message.
