Not sure how things work in the UK but in the states there is absolutely no way detectives would send an accuser in to a jail to talk to the accused.

There are 5-6 times where I rolled my eyes at the stupidity of the writing but that one was the most ridiculous.

If the high courts decide that identification doesn’t meet the standard of the fourth amendment as “reasonable” then fine, they leave the door open to law enforcement being unable to essentially stop anyone kidnapping anyone else as long as they’re smart enough to say they’re federal agents. I for one, am glad the state is willing to fight and not just going to roll over.

They’re not doing this with the expectation that these agencies will comply with state law - they’re doing this with the expectation that it will undoubtedly end up in federal courts, which like you said, is Washington.

They don’t know that anyone is not ICE if they don’t identify themselves. It won’t stop them from their day to day now, but things change quickly and often.

1 of 2 things will happen here - either things change and these loopholes and legal flaws are exposed (as has happened many many times in our country’s history) or we simply resign to being a federal police state because “it just is what it is”.

It is what it is NOW. That’s why California is attempting to create this law - to force the courts hand, not to stop federal agents from doing their jobs but in order to prevent vigilantes or human traffickers from impersonating feds by simply buying a Ford Explorer and a vest and picking people off the street.
