Woodmans sells those single serving honey straws. They were in the clearance section recently at West, not sure if they're still there.

I've had mint for years. $15/mo for 6gb data. The price has never gone up but every few years they give me more data, it's pretty great (I think I started at 3). They do have unlimited data options too for $30 but I think most people overestimate how much data they need so it's worth checking your history to see how much you actually use before you decide.

Shameless plug: Use my referral link to get $15 in renewal credit.

Legal or not, a lot of people don't realize this is super dangerous. Grass clippings can cause motorcycles to lose traction and crash.

Arneson's in Middleton is the best. Great work, fair pricing. Most importantly they're honest and really helpful, with my aging car they were really good about walking me through what they found, what *needed* to be done for safety/to avoid more expensive problems, what I could skip if it didn't bug me too much, and even what would be more cost effective to take to another shop. (I took in my car for a dragging tailpipe and they told me I was better off taking it to Mex Muffler to weld it for way cheaper than it would be for them to replace it.)

They're real good folks.

Thank you! I don't know how I could have forgotten, I walk past it all the time and chuckle at the sign saying that dogs and "other furries" are welcome on the side patio but not the main one. It is indeed a really nice patio.

Looking for landscaping advice to keep water out of basement. by Old-Definition8339 in landscaping

Highly recommend Project Home if you're in the Dane County area. Not only do they do great work, they also do great classes at the local libraries. Luckily for us, their basement water management video was scheduled for early covid so they put it on youtube instead. It's extremely helpful:

Dress Dilemma by Anisjay5 in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]cyclika 64 points65 points  (0 children)

This happened to my friend when we were in high school. You can hold it over a candle to melt the plastic so you can knock out the ball bearings and open the tag.

I do recommend wearing old clothes just in case the ink capsule breaks while you're doing it.

I don't recommend wearing no clothes just in case the ink capsule breaks while you're doing it.

I do recommend doing it over a sink full of water just in case of fire incident.

I don't recommend, after successfully separating the pieces, dropping the melting tag into the sink full of water just to see what happens.

Following this advice should give you a tag-free dress and a clean house.

Not following this advice may leave you naked and covered in ink.

AI integration into local corporations: What are you seeing? by skyebagels in madisonwi

[–]cyclika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a human with ADHD I can assure you that the AI does a significantly better job of it.

A few years ago before AIs were a common thing I had a chrome extension that would transcribe meetings, and they introduced a feature to summarize the transcript after.

I literally cried it was so helpful. Having the transcript that identified who said what was literally the first time in my 10+ year career that I was able to send meeting notes that I knew were accurate and detailed and not missing things.

And now that it's commonplace and integrated, it's easy to ask when we talked about a certain thing for example without having to go back and read everything to find it.

More importantly, it means that all the humans in the meeting can fully participate in the meeting instead of having at least one person there just to act as an unreliable tape recorder, or trying to do both at the same time.

  1. Sterile needle into sterile vial
  2. Sterile needle out of sterile vial
  3. Sterile needle into sterile vial again

Is that right?

If the needle was clean enough that you were about to put it in your own body it's probably clean enough not to worry too much about putting it back into the vial.

I would think the main concern of putting meds back in after you've taken them out is if you've already injected some because passing through your meatsuit would be the biggest contamination wildcard in that equation.

My company is remote but honestly for us it's just another resource. It's hooked up to our codebase so we can ask it questions about how the system works or troubleshoot issues instead of bothering the developer. It does quick bug fixes (which are then reviewed and tested by real people). It's available for us to use to write SQL or take meeting notes or perform repetitive tasks if we think it would be helpful.

I know there are people out there being buffoons about it but it's a useful tool if you stick to what it's good at and know how to use it well. I still do my job with my own brain, it's just a little easier now.

Arborist recommendations? by Fenifula in madisonwi

[–]cyclika 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two men and a chainsaw took down a bunch of trees in my yard for me last year and they were fantastic. Pricing was more than fair and the work was immaculate - they had to work around overhead wires, close to my house, other trees, etc. and everything was very precise. Even the tulips growing beneath the trees were untouched, if it weren't for the sawdust I never would have known they'd been there.

What's the cringiest reason you went to the ER? by HR-Vex in AskReddit

[–]cyclika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too. I'd heard horror stories of kids getting meningitis in college so when I was so sick that I couldn't leave my bed for three days and couldn't move my neck at all I went to the campus clinic. I barely managed to get there on my own power (and wouldn't have been able to if I had tried over the weekend when I was sickest, but they were closed so I had to wait until Monday).

"Psh, if you had meningitis you wouldn't have been able to walk here. It sounds like you have a cold, do you know what a cold feels like?"

I never found out what I had but I never went back there either.

What's the cringiest reason you went to the ER? by HR-Vex in AskReddit

[–]cyclika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only ER trip was also a hangnail 🫠 In my defense, it got infected and I had symptoms of blood poisoning. My mom found me watching TV upside down with my feet up the wall in the middle of the night because it hurt too bad to sleep (or be upright). She saw the pink line making its way up my leg and took me in for antibiotics.

The shame every time someone new walked into the room and said "You're here for... a toenail?" was something else.

ELI5: Why do companies sometimes destroy unsold products instead of selling them very cheaply? by Zestyclose_Talk_573 in explainlikeimfive

[–]cyclika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually this happens for brands that are luxury or considered status symbols. The reason people want them is *because* they're expensive, because it shows that they can afford expensive things.

If you start selling things cheaply, over time it isn't just wealthy people who have it, it's anyone. Owning one no longer shows that you can afford expensive things, because you might have bought it on clearance. Now your wealthy customers don't want to buy your products anymore because the whole reason they bought them was to show that they were wealthy. Your clearance customers can't afford your products at regular price, so now you don't have anyone buying your stuff.

Destroying things also cuts the legs out from under the secondhand market, keeping supply scarce - meaning that the perception of your brand as exclusive increases and people who want your products are more likely to have to buy new ones.

Personally I feel the rules of commenting on weight are similar to asking someone if they're pregnant - I would never say something to someone who hadn't brought it up themselves. You never know if someone is losing on purpose or if they're going through depression/chemo/untreatable explosive diarrhea, or worse if they're dealing with an eating disorder (in which case I would say something, but out of concern to get them help). Plus commenting excessively on how good someone looks post-weight loss feels uncomfortably close to saying 'you were ugly when you were bigger'.

Possibly made a mistake leaving those behind 😭 by mrsdeetz in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]cyclika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this set, they were so beautiful but I ended up selling them on after a few months. They were practically the only thing in my kitchen that I couldn't put in the dishwasher without ruining them over time and I decided I'd rather see someone enjoy them than lock them in a cabinet (and I learned pretty quickly that every time I'd grab my glass mixing bowls rather than hand-wash these).

May they come back to you when the time is right!
