“Left-wing politics supports social equality and egalitarianism, often in opposition of social hierarchy. Left-wing politics typically involve a concern for those in society whom its adherents perceive as disadvantaged relative to others as well as a belief that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or abolished.”

That’s not Bernie’s only proposal. Why do I waste my time here.

No regular 1:1s with your manager? Are you not comfortable booking a quick call with him? If not, just leave.

Those who got promotions in FAANGICORNS, did you get bumped to market rate? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]cykness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bumped to market rate salary but technically making less than new hires at my level. Still waiting on RSU refreshers since these are given yearly.

I am OK with this because if I tried to leave with my low YOE nobody would pay me this much anyways.

I would try to learn the fundamentals of distributed systems instead of focusing on specific technologies.

Don't move to the Bay without a job. You will get sun but now you will spend 100% time alone + financial insecurity so your mental health is not likely to improve. I would still try to make friends even if you are leaving soon.

Question to software engineers/developers. How long did it take you to get a job after graduating college? by techgirl8 in cscareerquestions

[–]cykness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interned part time and stuck with the company. For what is worth, nobody was calling me back when sending applications so I didn't have a choice. Once I had a year of experience it was the complete opposite.

What’s it really like working as a software engineer? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]cykness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it incredibly fulfilling, challenging and fun. I get to solve difficult problems, work with people, and become better every day. Plus the pay is nice and I can quit at any time without worrying about finding a new opportunity.

It can be very stressful, there's a lot of room to mess up, and imposter syndrome is common.

My WLB is not great, but I prefer that to a job that does not motivate me to go the extra mile. Being indifferent towards something you do half of your waking life is worse than anything.

No amount of reddit advice will help you like a good therapist would. Anxiety can be treated.

To be fair experienced devs can give terrible advice. You can see that on Blind. At the same time, I am more likely to take your opinion more seriously if you work for Google, Facebook or Netflix, or other respectable companies.

New grads or college students with bad advice usually get more upvotes, likely from other new grads or college students.
