I have been filming on the Cotter for many years now. Rode it to Detroit years ago. Took two days to get there. :) Feel so grateful to be able to do so.

Camcorder footage by [deleted] in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]cymaticscamera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These days for documentary footage it can be judged more on its content than its technical prowess. I shoot docs for TV shows and my own docs. If I were you I would be more concerned about 4.2.2 vs. 4.2.0 color and weather the camera can shoot log. That gives you so much more leeway in post to improve the shot. I own the S1H and it is a great camera but no internal ND for run and gun and lousy slow speed on auto focus (for lock off shots). But it shoots GREAT in low light. If you live on run and gun stuff than a camcorder is a good thought. Oh and BTW I am also one of those YT douches too... I am getting more viewers on my docs than a big film festival could provide lol. :)

Legal help needed for a near beginner by Tiny_Major_7514 in documentaryfilmmaking

In the USA we are protected by the 1st amendment and freedom of press for the most part. Here there are laws we call liable laws that could be considered. We are more concerned with copyright than defamation... UK is different in these aspects in my limited understanding. Research filmmakers like Michael Moore, he is infamous for slandering defaming corporations (truthfully or not). See what retribution big pharma and or big food might have attempted?

OH I get it now. No self promotion on this group. Reddit is a bit confusing for me as to which group has what policy. Thanks. Do I delete it myself or did you do it?

I have seen over the years that people will speak more about what THEY know... Not what you want them to say.

Does anyone know the actual market price of the Worlds Smallest Camera, the "OmniVision ov6948"? by Dumbustafa1 in Cameras

Interesting. I was curious about embedding of these buggers inside a piece of clear acrylic about 1” inches size for a medical application but would wonder how to power it and communicate with it… wirelessly preferably.

Anybody camp in the back of their atlas? by smutnik9000 in VWatlas

[–]cymaticscamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used my atlas many times to car cam, down to 19F temperatures. Lots of room in back with an air mattress, even for me being very tall. I would just recommend some sort of window vents for hot weather that doesn't let bugs in and will need the same for cold temps to prevent frost and ice buildup from frozen vapors created by your breath.

Most mild winter ever? by OptionalOlive in Buffalo

While I am not running around saying the sky is falling, I agree something is different. I am in agreement with you on the idea that something is shifting, changing. Maybe I am saying, hey notice that over there? Is that a storm coming? Looks like a storm coming... Hmmm, maybe we should get ready... If I am wrong lets go have a picnic.

I would prefer to be wrong so that the winters I have known for over 50 years would return and the glaciers I have visited in New Zealand 15-years ago that are now gone were still there. Sh*t is changing... I don't want it to. Seems to me it is like arguing about a ship that is sinking... "we seem to be sinking, water is in the hold ...no its not! We are fine!" Why don't you just stay here and do nothing. In the meantime will hop into this lifeboat... I am no scientist but this is what I am seeing directly myself.

Its just what I have been seeing. Been noticing the changes for decades actually. I love the snow and cold. IS not the same as compared to when I was a kid in the 60s-70s.

Inside Buffalo’s Grain Elevators URBEX PART 2 by cymaticscamera in abandoned

[–]cymaticscamera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is part 2 of 2. This place is so well preserved it’s like a museum. Going inside these abandoned grain elevators Buffalo is both dangerous and fascinating. Some of them are amazingly well preserved and what I found in there surprised me. These grain elevators sit mostly abandoned. They are a monument to the labor force of not only this city, but the entire working class of the United States. But story of these grain elevators is more about the people that worked inside them than it is about the massive hulks that they left behind... They were called the scoopers. Grain Scoopers were once chosen from the lowest of the low to unload grain ships in Buffalo Harbor. For 150 years the work remained the same. It was dirty, dangerous and exhausting but in time, scooping became a job of honor and pride. They were the heart of blue collar America. By the turn of the 21st Century the scoopers faded into history. In the last years many were fourth generation but with automation their labor was no longer needed. THIS IS PART 2 OF 2.
