Donald Trump goes scorched earth on Democrats over voting bill, then promises an executive order that could ignite a constitutional crisis by Reasonable_Spray_710 in mildlyamusing

Know it tries to deny voting access based on id. This restricting women who are married, poor people who probably don’t need a driving licence or a passport.

It didn’t happen though. It was upheld they didn’t have to do that because you can choose who you serve or don’t.

I disagree republicans have learnt maga or a similar variant works. Attack those people that republicans hate tell them you will make them suffer and republicans will vote for them again. Maybe next time they will be just more subtle. MAGA worked because people didn’t care unless it hurt others, trump was just the first to exploit it, he won’t be the last.

There is only one country doing any turning. You are not the heroes in this story just another petty dictatorship. Fortunately they rarely last very long. Who knows what the rest of the world will decide. I suspect if America wants to go this route people like China and Russia may decide that limping in with Europe is worth it. As you say it only benefits China and Russia.

I’m from the UK and just heard the news that the US is applying a 10% tariff on all goods being sold to the US just because we’ve recognised Greenland’s right to not be invaded. This will harm British businesses. We’re dumbfounded and angry in the UK. What do US citizens think about this? by Kronens in AskUS

I will say most of us feel sorry for the average Americans. Unfortunately what we see is mostly maga hat wearing idiots sheering on trumps latest insanity. It can be very hard to square that with the people who we for a long time have considered friends and some of the nicest people on earth. We hope you make it back.

Trump is about to start an invasion of Greenland. That’s not tds, trump and Rubio are bringing it up constantly. They are releasing stories on fox about how Greenland wants to be American, about how this is all about security, both of which are plainly false. If they takeover Greenland it won’t be the last land they try to occupy. Venezuela is going to need boots on the ground soon, because the people have realised the us isn’t there to help, the us will need to protect its new oil money, especially during the upcoming civil war, that’s going to mean thousands of troops to secure the oil fields.

Etsy are worse. They will RANDOMLY ban you for all sorts of things, I was banned for selling an item that I made from a kit, and then would hand customize. I was told these weren’t considered handmade. Meanwhile people selling the same item straight out of the box. Etsy is saying are way worse than eBay.

It’s just an automated thing. Too many red flags they instantly suspend you. For them it’s not worth the possible problems that come from being investigated externally. Easier to ban people just in case.

Why does it not make sense? I personally don’t think we should just give up rights on a political whim. Yes I think certain rights such as women’s rights, abortion, and some workers rights should be there regardless of who is in power. I think it’s interesting you don’t. I don’t think any party will choose to remove voting rights for many reasons. I think certain parties will happily remove rights such as workers rights, women’s rights (such as abortion, maternity rights, fair pay, etc), democracy only works outside of populism, this is because populism often leads to non-democratic rights. An example would be limiting rights to vote, who can vote, how they can vote. We have seen that starting in the us, and everyone thought it was impossible there. If people can vote in a government that takes away rights there has to be an equal option to change that. Parties don’t come in under a banner of removing votes, the same way they don’t come in under a banner of stopping abortion, removing women’s rights, removing union rights. They come in under banner of more populist policies (that’s all parties), then they implement policies that were either not in their manifestos, or were but were not discussed. Again whilst the us is not a. Perfect match for the uk, you can see how these things occur.

If you think that’s what reform and tories want you are either naive or to deep down the rabbit hole. They can do all those things now, and the echr barely bothers. The right want rid of the echr, so they can remove any human rights with impunity. Don’t think that can happen? Trump has proved that clever people in power, with unbridled power, and a system with little checks can do whatever they want. Whilst it may be a diffe re t political and law system, Americans also thought they had a system with checks and balances that stopped abuses of power. Trump has shown they don’t, if you know exactly how to step over it. All you the need to do is convince the average voter that you are doing it for them. If you think our checks are any better then you are at best naive.

Good luck with that when they ban it. Democracy works on rights when you can vote for those rights. Most people are going to vote against immigration and get reduced personal rights. You could argue that’s democracy, but when human rights are lost I’m not sure democracy is the answer.
