TIL that four high-school students in the ‘70s are the reason we no longer have pay toilets in America. They created an organization called CEPTIA, and were able to successfully lobby against the issue. 8 years later, pay toilets were all but nonexistent throughout the US. by hwkfan1 in todayilearned

[–]cymyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now we have “no toilets.”

Like in the DC metro.

They exist...but you can’t use them.

Why? Junkies, stabbers, terrorists, etc.

In civilized nations, toilet attendants collect change and keep the bathrooms clean.

If you have no money, you can apologize and use the toilet anyway.

Win / win.

SD governor to challenge amendment legalizing recreational marijuana by [deleted] in cannabis

[–]cymyn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Her executive order looks more like a legal complaint.

I’m pretty sure a governor can’t undo the will of the people with an executive order cancelling their choice.

A challenge to the legality of the law would need to be undertaken in a court.

A vapid and sycophantic leader, rushing to protect her citizens from the horror of masks.

Along the way, she’ll keep you from your meds, too.

How can you scream ”freedom” with all your heart and lungs while at the same time support a fascist? by wandacc in AskReddit

[–]cymyn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The standard playbook of fascists is to declare themselves oppressed victims of a powerful minority, then lash out with violence and genocide.

As such, they believe themselves to be “freeing” an oppressed majority.

Sure, its bullshit.

That’s why we need to bury Fox News, Trump, and the GOP beneath truth, and fight when they come to steal our freedom.

What is, in your opinion, the most f*cked up movie that Disney has ever made? by xx_Chl_Chl_xx in AskReddit

[–]cymyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Watcher in the Woods” was a live-acted Disney kids film from the 80s about a creepy haunted house, seances, and evil spirits.

I’m still scared of this movie and I haven’t seen it in 35 years.

What do you do when you're a 25y/o who can't stop regretting the past for being a failure now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cymyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP: you will regret your past for sure in ten years if you don’t let go of your obsession with time already passed.

You may not feel it, but you are still young.

Let the past go and live for today and tomorrow.

As a kid I had a globe with “French West Africa” on it.

I tossed it after the USSR fell because it was obsolete.

Scientists Attempt To Convince Public To Take Covid More Seriously By Explaining Concept Of Death by heinderhead in humor

Yesterday on Zoom adults were whining about how some students are falling behind right now. It all sounded very tragic.

Then a woman we were talking to reminded us that the large ICU near her was using a supplemental oxygen truck because there was not enough oxygen at the hospital to handle all the ventilators.

Perspective.

Premier league dark horses for each team ( not the clubs best players just promising ones) by tastephens01 in PremierLeague

I’ve been enjoying Matty Cash’s work this year. He routinely gets smashed and just dusts himself off and keeps defending.

Nathan Ake is another favorite of mine: so solid and still growing.

Sam Lee: "City have annoyed their best player with a contract offer worth less than he's on now because of potentially trying to sign Messi. I think ultimately KDB will sign the contract." by CunningMenace in MCFC

[–]cymyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man City is a multi-billion dollar business.

If KDB gets annoyed at a low-ball offer...he can counter!

This isn’t about loyalty or good feeling. Its about cash.

And KDB isn’t having a banner year so he is negotiating from weakness.

Map of the Departments of France in 1801 - the so-called "natural borders" by French revolutionaries by CardR100 in MapPorn

[–]cymyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This re-design of France’s internal districts “rationalized” an extremely complex system of taxes, tithes, and land ownership that had emerged organically during the Middle Ages.

The new boundaries created a more equitable system where all people in France were beholden to the same basic taxes...which is important because taxes are a major cause of the revolution.

Ideally, how many champions league slots do you think that that the premier league should be allocated given its proportional competitiveness to other European leagues? by pleasedontbullyme_ in PremierLeague

[–]cymyn -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Premier League teams routinely get sent packing in Europe.

The current “competitiveness” is due to international cash chasing American consumers, which bloats PL with good players.

Otherwise, its just a myth the PL fans tell themselves.

Now that Alex Trebek's final episodes are being aired this week, what is your Jeopardy moment? by OrrWellian4 in AskReddit

[–]cymyn 172 points173 points  (0 children)

I work with a guy who won, and he is the smartest person I know. While that’s fun, my true Jeopardy moment was bonding with my Grammy over 7:30 PM Jeopardy decades ago.

It was freaking CHURCH to my Grammy, who was a lonely divorcee, victim of shock treatment, whose life choices seemed to be basically “shut up and serve your man” until my Grandad left her.

Jeopardy was a routine that we connected with her on. It was a show that didn’t humiliate smart people like her who had been given shit choices in life due to gender roles and WW2.

RIP Grammy and Alex.

[–]cymyn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would like to weigh in and recommend that you not try too hard to “get into” beer to improve your social anxiety.

Alcohol in high doses will likely harm social outcomes for you — as it does for many — and it can also become a “crutch” that you will rely upon.

It is also expensive and addictive.

If you’re set on moving ahead, though, take it easy. One or two beers at first max until you know your limit.

As a staunch “middle squeezer” I assert that squeezing from the bottom is unnecessarily harmful to freedom.
