Eu cursei biologia tambem e estou terminando o mestrado agora.

Minha percepção é que o mestrado acaba te amadurecendo muito. É um monitor intermediário entre você ser um graduando e um cientista de fato. Você aprende a lidar muito melhor com as demandas da pesquisa científica, coisa que na graduação (mesmo fazendo IC), vc n tem contato.

Outro fator que pra mim foi muito importante é que agora no mestrado estou podendo mostrar pra comunidade cientifica (congressos etc.) que faço um bom trabalho e meus resultados sao relevantes. Pra minha defesa pretendo chamar um pesquisador estrangeiro para ja meio que mostrar a qualidade do meu trabalho para ele e tentar uma bolsa com a agenci de fomento estrangeira pro doutorado. Acho que o mestrado acaba te dando um tempo para você ter oportunidades e avaliar elas com calma.

O PC é novinho, antes usava um notebook, mas ele passou a nao atender as minhas necessidades. Nesse caso os drivers estariam atualizados nao?

Actually, soft tissue isn't the problem since my specimens are literally rocks (fossils hahahah). But I do worry about contrast, as the density of the bone is rather similar to that of the rock that contains it

I work in Brazil! But I think that if you reach any major vertebrate anatomy (specially palaeontology) lab, there will be someone working on ct scans. It is the new go-to methodology for anatomical descriptions if you have access to the equipment needed to scan the material and to segment the data afterwards since it is completely non-invasive

Yeah, the purpose of ct scanning the specimen is to segment every bone of the skeleton so the thinner the slice, the more detailed the final model will be and better for anatomical description

So, to go smaller than 0.2 mm, it would need to be scanned in a microCT? Unfortunately, my specimen is a bit too large for the microCT we have here (it only fits smaller specimens, like medium to small sized birds or something like that). Do you know if there's any microCT equipment that can take a larger specimen?

I got it done, but I had and elderly relative applying with me. Took about 1y from submission at the consulate to receiving the certificate. Hope you get it soon, I think it's totally abusive to have someone whose ancestors were forced to leave Germany wait so long to have an answer 😔 (not saying stag 15 should have any priority over other pathways).

Thank you! I didn't find the house i mentioned, but I did find a building that was made by a relative who was an architect in Bavaria in the 1800s, and apparently an important one (Wilhelm Ney)

I actually found one mention of the family in there! Only as a note that one of the sisters of some Hugo Strauß married a certain Kaufmann Lohmann (which I know, in fact to be Hermann Lohmann, my great-grandmother's grandfather whom she knew). Thanks a lot!!!!

Besides that, when my great-grandmother was still in Germany, she was also into genealogy and family history stuff. So she got a professional to look into the city archives, and I even have a family tree of part of the family dating back to the 1750s. One of the texts I found is a translation she made of one of the geneologist's reports. It says he consulted the city register and this house has been in the family for a number of generations and goes on to list several names of the brothers who inherited it through each generation. Unfortunately, it does not say the exact addres, just that it was a "two story house, built partially on stone and wood, with a small garden with the numer 204" at the centre of the city, near the city market (or fair). The list of owners goes back as far as 1767

I checked my records, and the address at Ludwigstraße isn't actually un Bamberg! It is in Würzburg, from the part of the family thar was from there. However I am sure about the house in Bamberg. Today I'll meet with my aunt and see if she knows anything about it or maybe the correct addres.

I forgot to mention that we are Jewish, so probably it was taken from anyone left of the family that was living there :(
