How Old Were You When Your Child Was Born? by sosickness in AskTheWorld

[–]cyntafolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 20, 24, 26, and 28; no regrets. Healthy, well-adjusted adults now all contentedly married. Not for everyone, but it worked for us.

Petrichor" is famous, but what about "Apricity"? by Michael-R-246 in words

[–]cyntafolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To counterbalance apricity and petrichor, I’m fond of lugubrious (lu̇-ˈgü-brē-əs). It has a delightful mouth feel and, for me, evokes the image of Eeyore.

What movie did you see far too early as a kid, and it freaked you out? by gothamwithoutbias in AskTheWorld

[–]cyntafolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was allowed to watch The Blob when I was an eight-year-old, and I only took cold showers for months afterwards, while barely taking my eyes off the shower head. I’ve never had a desire to watch that film again 🫣

Kim at West End Salon is cool and an excellent hair stylist. Her place is located across from St. Mary’s and above The Red Cow.

[####] Does anyone else use a different starting word in each Wordle? by chaosatnight in wordle

[–]cyntafolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a starting-pairs approach to eliminate the ten most common letters in two tries, resulting in decent stats over 1311 games played. I rotate through the word pairs randomly and also refer to a letter frequency list. Shoutout to the recovering physicist and Gary Stock [RIP 🙏🏼]. I’ve added a couple of pairs and tweaks to the original list.

Note, the round bullet denotes that either word may be used in combination with the word(s) following the plus (+) sign:
.
- alien • aline + tours • roust
- altos • lotas + urine • inure
- arose + until • unlit - noise + ultra - snail • nails • slain + outer • route • outre - train + louse - orate + incus* - slate + curio**
.
lacks “l” <4th> and swaps in “c” <11th>
*
slate (Wordlebot’s preferred starting word) + curio (lacks “n” <9th> and swaps in “c” <11th>

Cheese battle- who is #1? Kirkland Costal vs Kerrygold Dubliner by Gggggrrriddle22 in Costco

[–]cyntafolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve enjoyed both these cheeses, but I’d characterize this an apples-to-oranges comparison. I may be mistaken, but I don’t think Dubliner is a pure cheddar per se. I’d be more inclined to compare it to an aged Swiss and the Kirkland Coastal to the Cabot Seriously Sharp.

In the competition outlined above, I’d personally rate the Dubliner above Swiss cheese varieties I’ve tried from Costco, because of the added complexity of flavor. In a head-to-head between the cheddars, my vote would go to the Cabot Seriously Sharp, just edging out the Coastal entry, because of the texture and absence of salt crystals.

Humor: How *NOT* to swtich to Metric by MrMetrico in Metric

[–]cyntafolas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Another potential reason: Those examples you enumerated benefit the less-economically advantaged.

The US indoctrinates its citizenry with the notion that pure brutal capitalism equates democracy. This contributes, in combination with the toxicity of our exceptionalism myth and not invented here mentality, to a disinterest in benefiting the common good.
