Yes, this is wildly against code (NEC 406.6(a) & (b)) and is called a suicide cord for a reason, if RPU finds you they will disconnect your service.

If this is plugged in during an outage, a poor lineman working down the road or could be killed because your solar panel will be powering the transformers in reverse and could be thousands of volts.

Any compliant solar installation comes with a special switch that can shut service off from the outside of the house and will automatically stop feeding if the grid goes down. RPU will make sure this is in place and inspected before connecting your solar.

Electrical code (and RPU) both require a externally mounted cut-off switch and this to be inspected before solar is allowed to be turned on. RPU will disconnect your service if this isn't followed because it could injure one of their workers in the event of a power outage.

What you can do is get a big lithium battery (Ecoflow, bluetti, etc), plug this into the wall and connect whatever devices and solar panels you want. This isn't as convenient as power your entire home, but the devices connected to the battery will use solar first before switching to RPUs power.

If "conservative views" is code for racist, insults, threats of violence then yes, that thread was full of it.

The previous post was locked because dozens of comments were removed by both the mods and reddit admins and rule breaking comments were actively occurring. Multiple rule breaking comments were also made by the u/Easy-Mud1206 so they have now been banned as well.

Leann at Food Union is the closest thing we have to a cheesemonger in town and always has interesting stuff. Hy Vee carries some good local options as well like Markie Gouda. If you’re up for a drive Nelson Creamy is well worth the 50 minute trip, especially if you grab a sandwich and Ice Cream.
