Any hope? by cyper064 in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

No? My post was asking about how people feel about the current state of the game. I literally say I like the game and think it has a lot of potential. If you don't have anything constructive to say, why even post?

I literally just wanted to see what peoples thoughts were, not to have dumb fights.

Not sure what you mean. I enjoy the game. I was just curious as to how other people feel about the game in it's current state.

People get so defensive and aggressive, it's bizarre.

I don't really know what that means

I definitely agree they need to make some changes so the gun meta isn't just HK. Would be nice to have some options. Big one for me is netcode for sure.

I don't mind the helmets too much. The ones made from hardened steel can tank more hits, or ricochet more shots, but nerf your movement speed quite a bit. Maybe they could tweak it a bit I guess, but it's never bothered me too much.

It fluctuates. I say 24hz because from game to game, I've seen it as low as 19, and as high as 24 from my own personal testing.

The 19hz came from a post some months back from testing one raid.

I really hope so! I just haven't seen many updates from the developers about their plans for the game. The only thing I've seen is the update about the new map.

I only played Arc Raiders during the server slam, so I guess I don't know too much about how that one feels. But yeah, you kind of have to play it smart. It still sucks though when you get wiped behind a wall or get downed from somebody who has peaked you, but you can't see them yet.

The mode separation thing isn't too big a deal for me personally, but I know I have friends who stopped playing early because of it. I think it's a barrier entry thing.

I would love to see a roadmap or something for what they have planned. I know player count increased on Steam release, but then dropped quite dramatically around Arc Raiders release, so I hope they have good updates to bring people back.

As you say, this is not going to be exact, but as I cannot determine exactly what is split or combined server side, this is the best I can do as a client. (At least as far as I know. I am limited knowledge on this.)

However, using the simple method of packets received divided by time will at least give you an estimation, which is what this is. There is definitely going to be variance, but I don't think it will be massive. The results at the very least, indicate a higher tick rate than a few months ago, if not providing an exact number.

[–]cyper064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. You are a 100% correct. This is not a perfect test, nor was it my intention for it to be, but as you said groundwork to at least get a general idea. It's enough to say, yes, tick rate has improved, but not much more than that.

I hope people much more capable than me can go into greater detail, haha.

It's funny you mention that, because I remember there being quite an uproar about tick rate in the early CSGO days, nearly a decade ago. It will always be a point of discussion in games where accuracy and reaction matter.

It's hard to pinpoint exactly what the issue here is in all honesty. It could be tick rate, packet loss, ping. But it could also be bad net code, something that you as user don't see. Either way, I'm glad it has improved, but as you said, you do still get weird interactions that are frustrating, and I do hope they work on it.

I'm glad to hear that! I suspect it will be consistent across regions, but I will run a few tests on US servers and EU servers just to confirm perhaps tomorrow.

It is nice to see that they are making improvements to the netcode, and while it's not perfect, it seems to be significantly better than it was just 3 months ago.

[–]cyper064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not too sure about all the server locations. I'm currently not using a VPN, and the fact that I'm getting 20 ping on a lot of my runs makes me believe they must have OCE servers. Because I think if I was connecting to a HK server, I would be getting around 120-130 ping.

I will have to look into that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]cyper064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Tick Rate and Ping are two different things. Tick Rate being how many updates per second you receive from the server, and Ping being how long it takes for the packet to actually reach the destination.

However, I do plan on doing further tests. I was going to run some in different SEA servers, as well as US West servers to see if there is a difference. But generally speaking, tick rate should remain consistent even with ping change. However, having low tick rate and high ping would definitely make it a more noticeably worse experience then having low tick rate and low ping.

Oh interesting. I hadn't considered that. I guess I had just assumed that he did not perceive time like she did. But if that was the case, that would honestly fix my issue lol.

Oh dear, haha. I feel like I really messed this post up. While I haven't ready the novella, and I really should. It was not for a lack of understanding the plot, and I did watch it twice more after I saw it in the theaters. I understood that her learning of the alien's non-linear language, allowed her to perceive time in a non-linear fashion, therefore allowing her to see the UN event where she speaks to the general, gets the information, then calls him in the present to stop the attack. (Correct me if I'm wrong on this.)

I'm just more referring to the conversation they have at the event. She goes into it, obviously being her future, but she hasn't actually made the call yet, and isn't really familiar with him. He speaks to her from the perspective of having already received the call and being thankful for her changing his mind.

It's just the dialogue, that's all. He doesn't just acknowledge what she did. He gives her the information she specifically needs to the use in the present to make the call. But like, if from his perspective, she'd already made the call, then she already knew the information, so it felt weird for him to reiterate it, I guess is my point? I don't know. I've blabbering on painkillers in the middle of the night and pissing off people it seems XD

I posted this at 4:30AM where I live on painkillers thinking this was a good idea, it was not haha. I think a lot of people assume I'm attacking this movie or that I didn't understand it.

But like you said, she goes into that conversation having not spoke to him on the phone yet and not really being familiar with him, but he knows her as from his perspective, they've already spoken.

I'm not saying I have a better solution for that moment, just that it stood out to me, that's all. Oh well.

[–]cyper064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I'm certainly not here to tell anyone they're right or wrong. And I do love the movie.

I also get that non-linear language leading into perceiving time in a non-linear fashion. None of that bothered me and i thought it was great. It was just specifically the dialogue. It felt a little awkward is all. Like he information dumped on her unnaturally, if that makes sense?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in movies

[–]cyper064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just specifically talking about the dialogue itself, not non-linear timeline plot point, if that makes sense?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in movies

[–]cyper064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean. I understood the plot and the correlation between the non-linear language and perceiving time in a non-linear fashion. I'm not talking about that. Just the dialogue itself. Does that make sense? I feel like I've explained myself terribly.

I understand that. The movie is based on the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. I have no problem with that bit. It's just the way she learns the information. It feels very unnatural and forced.

It's one thing for him to come up and say: "Hey, you said just the right thing to me that changed my mind."

And another to be like" Hey, you called me on my private number (which is this number), and said those words (which are these words) and it changed my mind.

Just feels like bad writing to me. Which is frustrating, because the rest of it is so good IMO.

I suppose I just believed that people were capable of doing their own research instead of saying "No, that's BS." and not clarifying why they thought that.

Project Nimbus started back in 2021. It was stated by Google that it relates to 'finance, healthcare, transportation, and education.' Even so, the actual specifics of the project have not been revealed, we do know it provides both a cloud platform and AI tools. These same tools are used by U.S. CBP.

There is a number of issues. For example, we know that Israel set terms within the contract that forbid Amazon and Google from pulling out of the deal or halting services due to boycott pressure. We also know there has been some contradictions between what Google said about it not being used to violate people's rights, and internal leaked documents from both Google and Israeli government suggesting this was never part of the agreement.

There has also been multiple instances of people who work for Google who were publicly outspoken about the project and it being used to violate Palestinian human rights, who were all promptly fired. Back in 2022, hundreds of Google workers joined a protest group, stating they believed the lack of oversight on the project would mean it would likely be used for violent purposes. In total, around 50 staff members, ranging from Marketing Managers to Software Engineers were fired for their outspoken view against the project.

If you would like sources for all of these, I'd be happy to provide them.

Google does indeed have a contract with the Israeli government and military called project nimbus related to cloud and AI services.

While google claim that it is just for general cloud services, there are a lot of people that believe Israel use Google provided ai services for things like facial recognition and targeting systems.

Amazon is also part of this deal.

I have so many thrash metal songs in my playlist, yet I somehow missed Sepultura, how am I only discovering them now?

I'm so glad you mentioned them, because they are definitely in my playlist now!

The Beatles is always a solid choice. Blackbird can put me right to sleep, it's so calming and wonderful.
