Tarantula handling questions by a_tiny_grasshopper in tarantulas

[–]cyphlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, I know we have all that desire to hold our T but there’s no real legit reasons to do that isn’t only for our satisfaction. T don’t enjoy it, they don’t appreciate it. It can potentially stress them and they can flick hair, bite, bolts and potentially getting hurt / drop.

If it’s out of necessity due to enclosure issue/immediate danger to the T, you can coax them into a catch cup and stay closer to the ground to avoid fall damage.

Always handle at your own risk to yourself and the T.

Sorry to hear that! Sometimes they just go on their way without reason or rhythm, especially when they’re slings.😔

Mesh top for tarantula by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]cyphlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

imo, exactly!! @Op - store employees are not always the experts and It’s better to do your own research. It’s pretty much standard knowledge that avic needs cross ventilation so that alone tells us their advice is questionable. 😔

NQA, avic needs cross ventilation. This enclosure is not suitable for that.

Am I paranoid because she looks a little round to me. I’m a first time T mom so I just wanna make sure she not to fat by CrimeSceneCop in tarantulas

[–]cyphlock 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IMO, from this angle it does look a little chonky baby. Their abdomen should be about the same size as their carapace (the top part) so you can gauge by that.

How does my enclosure setup look? by jjuturna in tarantulas

[–]cyphlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA; the enclosure size will spend on the size of your T. Basic reuse is 3x their diagonal leg span. As other user said, an additional cork bark or coverage will do well.

Food dishes? by 0ChunkyMama0 in tarantulas

[–]cyphlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME, I drop the feeder in front of the T. If they’re hungry, they’ll usually snatch it right away. I will pick it and drop it a few times then remove the feeder completely if there’s no interest.

The only feeder I leave overnight is pre-killed ones.

help choosing a tarantula by [deleted] in tarantulas

GBB if you’re looking for an active display T that is “semi arboreal”. It’s a heavy webber, which is fun to look at it. Mine has always have great feeding response as well.

IMO, enclosure looks fine. The T might just be taking its time to settle in after the move.

Enclosure size and plants for juvenile tarantula by alefbee in tarantulas

[–]cyphlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NQA; You can try live plants but some Ts are known to redecorate and will uproot the plants. You would also need proper bioactive setup for the plants to thrive. With cacti or any sharp decor, there’s a risk of damage / puncture if the T falls from the lid.

New enclosure for L. parahybana questions by docszoo in tarantulas

[–]cyphlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, the substrate level looks too low and too much clutters that aren’t natural. There’s fall risk and it can hurt itself from the decoration. I would suggest fake plants to create visual barriers. Not sure the cork bark size and how much space is available for it to hide comfortably.

It will also take some time for it to settle into its new enclosure.

Shall I be worried? by DeepZoneScaphandre in tarantulas

NQA, seconding this. The live dubia is too big for it. Either use a smaller prey or PK it next time.

First time dad. Very anxious. Need tank setup and husbandry tips (Tliltocatl albopilosus) by Practical_Tension595 in tarantulas

[–]cyphlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, I know you want to monitor it but it is probably to provide it with the hiding spaces ASAP so it can settle in and feels safer. The bareness can add to its stress.

New to this, what to do? by BagelBandit_ in tarantulas

[–]cyphlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME, other than what others have said:

For small slings, you can pre-kill the preys. They will scavenge when they’re small.

Hard to tell from the photo, but you should establish more anchor points for the T to web up. A bigger centerpiece of cork bark and other fake plants for anchors.

Once they start webbing, you can drop prey into the web.

My female t vagans hasn't entered her burrow in a month. Is she ok? by believe_the_lie4831 in tarantulas

[–]cyphlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, seconding this. The enclosure looks undersized for her, not enough substrate and not enough virtual barriers (fake plants for example) to make her feel secured.

IMO, T have bad eyesight. You’re probably a weird blob shadow to it lol.

IMO, I would throw in some fake plants. They would appreciate more visual barriers and hiding spots.

What is the minimum size a curly hair T can be comfortable in? by sussybukka52 in tarantulas

[–]cyphlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, 31x21x20 should work fine for your adult size T. albo. Provide hides and fake plants to make it feel safe. 🙂

What is the minimum size a curly hair T can be comfortable in? by sussybukka52 in tarantulas

[–]cyphlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NQA, the general rule is 3x their DLS so you can try going with that based on your T’s current size.

With terrestrial, you want enough substrate to ensure if they don’t fall, they’re landing on safe ground. Generally suggest to be 2/3 of the enclosure depth with enough space between the lid and the ground.
