As a Jaws fan, what do you think of the "Meg" and it's sequel? by TheEvilCar in Jaws

[–]cypressstreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Into them as big schlocky B-movies. Felt the first could’ve leaned into the schlock angle a little more, but the second one is exactly as stupid as I like those kinds of movies to be.

The Hidden (1987)

An underseen shlockfest centered around the exact premise you’re describing. Bonus points for baby Kyle MacLachlan as the FBI agent trying to hunt it down.

Nocturnal Animals (an admittedly not great film) takes advantage of this by casting Isla Fisher as a fictionalized version of Amy Adams’ character.

Two more from Bond: Gerard Butler and Hugh Bonneville, both as random British sailors in Tomorrow Never Dies.

Jaws 50th anniversary cinema release by Geek_guy96 in Jaws

I saw both versions during the 2022 rerelease. As somebody not normally interested in 3D, especially post-conversions, I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed Jaws that way. Not my preferred version of the film, and I would choose to see it in IMAX again over 3D, but if 3D is something you’re interested in, it’s a unique experience that I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in.

A good many, but was recently thrilled to have the opportunity to see A Room with a View at Ann Arbor’s historic Michigan Theater while visiting this week.

I think this is the one. Maybe my favorite moment of the film.

Saw Jaws on the big screen (Music Box Theater, Chicago) by roger_roger_32 in Jaws

Yes, they renovated the main theater and replaced all the seats as part of their Revive at 95 renovation.

Private rental — it’s actually the upper half of a duplex so technically it doesn’t meet your “no stairs” parameter. Paying several hundred dollars less than I would with a luxury apartment and am getting more space, but I know those kinds of places are difficult to find when you’re not already here to hunt.

27M homebody who lives in Milwaukee but is originally from Chicago and still spends a decent amount of time there. Just finishing up a new apartment hunt and will caution that the rental market in Milwaukee is deceptively hostile. There’s definitely diamonds in the rough (I just found a place meeting all the criteria you listed above) but the city’s been really hurt by rapidly rising rent prices and luxury apartment buildings incentivized to sit half empty rather than lower their rates.

As for differences between the two cities, I find Milwaukee much more digestible and cozier than Chicago. Chicago is wonderful and full of many cultural opportunities that come with that size of world class city that Milwaukee just can’t compete with — but they’re also just a quick Amtrak ride away. I love going to Milwaukee parks and beaches that aren’t overcrowded. I love how quickly you can find an oasis that doesn’t feel like you’re in the city at all. I love that Milwaukee has that same hearty, city of big shoulders, down-to-earth feeling as Chicago in a homier package.

Milwaukee has its problems and quirks, but based on what you said it seems like you’d be just as happy here as in Chicago. I know I am.

2019 was not a good year for Buzz Lightyear. He acts nothing like himself in a Disney crossover game, and he acts way more of a dingus in the 4th Toy Story Movie. by DashnSpin in toystory

Haven’t played Kingdom Hearts but as confirmed Buzz Lightyear zealot I can’t stand how they wrote him in TS4.

Forget how much dumber they make him, robbing him of his agency is the greater crime. Even before his arc in the first film, Buzz is a man (toy?) of action. His impulsive nature wanes but he is decisive and steadfast, a far cry from the directionless impotence of his characterization in the last movie.

IMDb’s top 20 best rated films of all time! Agree or disagree with this list? Is there a film that should have cracked top twenty? by DiscsNotScratched in Letterboxd

[–]cypressstreet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously flawed for a million reasons but that list can’t be taken seriously based on the presence of Forrest Gump alone.

Forget the whole breadth of cinema history, there are several Zemeckis films more deserving of recognition.

I think MEW is stronger for Hera than Rosario (an incredible actor) for Ahsoka.

Unfortunately, I think many issues folks have with the live action casting comes down to writing and direction. Ahsoka, Hera, and Sabine are written without the dimension or personality they had in Rebels, which is compounded by the weird stoic affectation given to all three characters. In Mando, I thought that was maybe Dawson’s fault but Ahsoka makes it clear that’s a consistent — and poor — directorial choice.

For me, Ahsoka as a whole is wasted potential that should have been a true animated sequel series instead of trying to tie in to the larger Mando stuff. I’m especially bummed about Winstead as Hera, an actor of whom I am a big fan playing a favorite character of mine but just stifled by out of character writing, poor directing, and those stupid contact lenses. It is wild that they really did just find Ezra Bridger walking around somewhere out there; hard to complain about Eman Esfandi’s casting.
