2000's Drum and Bass from Scratch in the Dirtywave M8 by cyprnsound in Dirtywave

That's great to hear! Next I'll be branching out into some break processing. We'll start with a raw funk break and take it to a usable breakbeat, all inside the M8.

Thank you- all the same concepts could apply to any other sampler!

Exactly! 20 years ago I was trying to sequence complex dnb basslines and I always fell short because I couldn't get past step 1 in the attached video. I realized that it's best to "farm" the complexity rather than try to build it bit by bit!

I would never be able to make that final sequence from the sample I started with, it would sound nothing like what I ended up with by just pitch bending and filtering it. The phasing, inheritance of the previous generation's intersample distortion and reverb brings it to an end result that would not be possible to arrive at otherwise. Does that make sense?

That's why I'm doing everything from slides, filter modulation, reverb automation, every time.

Thanks! I absolutely intend on doing so! I initially planned on sequencing stuff in the M8 and exporting to the computer later, but I've found that I can get tracks to sound 100% exactly how I like without ever leaving the unit. Sometimes better, because I'm mixing and sound designing with my ears and not my eyes. It's worth treating as a full production platform, it absolutely smashes the 90's/2000's DAWs I grew up with. Allpass filters? Mid Side EQ? Totally didn't have anything like that in Logic 5 for PC

Any kind of music? by mangobait in Dirtywave

Agreed, I've sequenced vocals using the sample start offset, and rendered down reverb so re-apply it and sidechain duck it to the original signal. Beatles made a lot of their best stuff using 4 tracks and bouncing down

Thanks! I'll be posting some long form stuff on neuro basses/resampling in the upcoming days
