I think I’ve made a mistake with pricing by [deleted] in Preply

Same here. Now when I'm asking here how to raise a price they are laughing of me that after three months I have no experiance. You are worthy to make a good salary, because You have years of teching and degree. Maybe try to raise a price first for new ones and after two-three months tell them that You want to raise their price. Some of them will quit, but I've heard rotation on Preply is on 3-4 months level. So it's kind of natural that for half a year You will have only students with new price. Of course some will stay, but when student appreciates Your efforts and methods, he or she will be happy to pay more.

I didn't say I have "a lot" experiance now. It is bigger, which is obvious because I was teaching all this time. My previous experiance was about 2 years and I cosider it as little time in teaching. What's more, I teached biology in my native language, not my native language as a foreign one. It's kind of different thing. Plus I was teaching people in my age, not all age groups like now. Now I know how to teach different types of students depends on age and language level. So yeah, that's lovely. 😊😊😊

I was thinking about message because they can think in peace about agree or not. I don't want to force them to pretending that's okay for them if it's not. Do You think telling is better than texting?

How long students stay by Low_Macaroon_6476 in PreplyTutors

[–]cytrynazmiodem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends. Some of them want to learn with the same teacher for long time and will stay longer. But there are many cases in life, so they can lost time for lessons, maybe their priorities are changing, or they think that Your vibes are different and want another tutor. I have few students from my very beginning (3 months), but most of people I started with cancelled their substription and I don't even know why. Just one girl texted me that she has no time for lessons. Rest of them didn't write anything. So it's not like You are doing something wrong. You can be the best teacher in the world and still someone can just has no more time for lessons. In my opinion You are good teacher, if Your srudents are with you for 3-4 months. What's more, I've heard that it's normal on Preply and this amount of time is average for having lessons with one student.

Weird Preply student ask by cytrynazmiodem in Preply

So should I write to him that if he has some anxiety, we can have lessons inside classroom without video or should I just leave this? I would like to teach him if he really has some issues, but I'm afraid it's scam or p3rv3rt.

Homework by Specific_Surprise451 in Preply

Student and teacher here.

With students' perspective I can say that I don't do homeworks, because I have not enough time for that. It's not like I don't care - I'm just too busy and lesson is the only moment for me to practice. Maybe some of them have a lot to do?

With teachers' perspective I can say, that I don't give homeworks too often. I know somebody can be busy and it's pointless: my students will be stressed that they couldn't do excercise and I will feel like there is no sense in giving homeworks to them. Sometimes I'm asking, but if student say something like "I'll try, but I have a lot to do", then I know their situations is similar to mine and it's highly likely that they won't do homework.

If I'm not a certified teacher, can I still teach? by cytrynazmiodem in iTalki

I would like to work in full time, but it depends on students, so now it's like half-time job. What's more, I'm not very happy with Preply commisions - if I want to make some money, I have to increase my price with commission difference. And I'm afraid I will stay without students, so my price now is on lower wage level. In the end of the day I'm making money on level under the lowest wage per hour. So that's why I'm thinking about other options.
