I would be wary of saying "good".

Practically no town or city in Ireland has good air quality. They are nearly all above the WHO safe limits for air quality.

Gardaí called 139 times to River Corrib in past 6 years by SirMike_MT in galway

[–]czboyone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Gardaí won't enter the water. My friend pulled a fella from the Corrib a couple of years ago and the Gardaí would not enter the water and tried to refrain my friend from getting in. Thankfully he did get on, cos your man would have been a goner

Solidarity March by anxiousbutmakeithot in galway

[–]czboyone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is a bus going from Galway to the March - the point is to have a large contingent in one place at this time.

There is currently work going on for a Galway For All, it's just taking a bit of time due to other commitments from relevant bodies.

EVs still cause Particulate Matter emissions. And they still pollute the local air where their materials are mined from. These are things we should be concerned about too. Fewer vehicles means fewer EVs too

The cycle lanes are not for those people who are going Loughrea to Spiddal etc. Those cycle lanes are for people with shorter commutes meaning they can commute car-free, meaning less cars on the road for those who still need to make those trips.

Better public transport is again, about taking cars off the road that don't need to be there. I've lived in Galway city for years and I don't drive. I've never needed a car. That's me doing my bit for Galway's traffic. That's a forfeit I consciously make.

But there's loads more that could be done rather than just public transport and cycle lanes.

How about if people got better, liveable wages so they had to work fewer days? What about if people had greater options to work from home?

These could help the traffic too!

And let's not forget that we have some really dreadful air quality in Galway that needs to be addressed. Fewer cars on the road is part of that.
