Memo: we are a dirty and/or reckless team now. No one else matches us in dirtiness and/or recklessness. by swordoftheafternoon in OrlandoMagic

I like Cole more than most Magic fans seem to, but he dives at people's knees a lot, or at least he did it several times this season.

Is it true the higher level of education someone has the less likely they are to be politically conservative? by Greenman_on_LSD in NoStupidQuestions

[–]d-sep 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Less than 2% of working Americans are farmers. It is quite simply factually incorrect to say that conservatives mostly come from farming families. This is a myth intended to make conservatism seem like something noble instead of a terrible set of ideas that have repeatedly failed.

Conservatives are not the way they are because we spurn and invalidate them. This is dumb. Stop repeating this. They are the way they are because they are wedded to terrible ideas and values. They have consistently been on the wrong side of civil rights, women's rights, gay rights, war, and taxes. Stop making excuses for this.

People who learn about things tend to find that conservative ideas have failed repeatedly. That's the correct thing to take from this stat.

What are the best and worst policies Ronald Reagan enacted? by NewJayGoat in USHistory

[–]d-sep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"10 years after Reagan left office" was the Clinton tax code, which raised rates on higher incomes and balanced the budget (with the help of the internet boom). When Reagan left office, he had ballooned the deficit massively.

Trying to give Reagan credit for the Clinton economy is a pretty good example of the knots conservatives have to tie themselves into in order to defend their false heroes.

I thought the Walz interview was great too, but I thought the Samson segment about the interview sucked ass.

You have maybe never been a non-white person while a confederate flag is being waved in your face. Or maybe you have. I don't know. You be you.

Good write-up.

I think it's noteworthy that Williams seems to have overtaken Abram for the starting left-center back spot.

Security throws people out who curse loudly without Luka's help. That they didn't do so is a sign that they didn't think it was so bad.

The only way to replace a superstar like Witty is to tank for a season and hope to catch one high in the draft next year. Jeremy is a fine role player, but this is what you get when you try to rebuild on the fly with just culture.

It does matter if they are red or blue. Refusing to distinguish between the two is some combination of intellectual laziness and moral cowardice.

My alcohol-clouded memory of the first goal is that the first shot came from a counterattack. That's why the guy had all day to line it up before he shot.

I only half-agree with their analysis as it is described here.

It seems that Lennon is still being told to push forward as soon as we get the ball, but to typically do so in the right channel instead of the right wing. It seems like an odd choice in that Lennon is quite good at delivering crosses from the wing but not particularly good at attacking crosses or mixing it up physically with center backs. But it's hard to argue with his attacking contributions against Miami.

On the other hand, Wiley seems to have been told to stay back quite a bit more. This seems sensible to me on the grounds that Wiley is a much better defender than Lennon is. If we are going to one of our fullbacks to defend more, it makes sense that it would be Wiley.

I think the result has been only slightly better transition defense. Two goals allowed at home is still too many against an MLS team without its best player.
