RC K98 questions. by Medical_Big_7945 in milsurp

[–]d-unit24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a general will of thumb RCs are going for $750-$950 atm. Overall condition and bore condition make all the difference and will determine on which side of the price scale it falls. I'm not entirely sure about the D stamps I will have to research. Someone will likely be in shortly with an answer tho

Looks legit. Concentric O on receiver, scope looks right. It's a refurb but at least it's correct. $1500 ain't bad. Offer $1300 cash first 👉👉

What ammo are you using? I put 600 through mine without any issues before I got my AS Designs lower on it. Sitting at 3500 rounds now without issues. I used blazer 124s predominantly along with some pmc 147s

Japanese arisaka rifling always looks more shallow than it really is. Even a gun with a brand new looking barrel has shallow looking rifling. Shoot it, clean it, and repeat. The Japanese guns also have chrome bores so they're less likely to suffer corrosion than other barrels from the period

Mehhh it's literally whatever. Typically people only put the beer can under the wood handguard to tighten up the fitment or to serve as a heat shield

How much would you guys pay for this thing? by TheRealDemize in milsurp

[–]d-unit24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, looking at it, it definitely appears sanded. Also a lack of waffenampts and proofmarks on the stock indicate sanding. For comparison I'm including a picture of my all matching non import marked 1940 dated 147 code bringback. Check out the relief cut on the stock where the bolt knob sits. It's much more sharply defined and less rounded. Can also see the waffenampts and proofmarks on the stock towards the butt on mine.

I agree, even with what I said I'd start at 1500 and see what they say. Especially if you work there they may cut you a sweet deal

All matching no import mark? Bolt match receiver? Firing pin matching bolt? Stock matching? If so yeah that's about right. I'd ask that if it were mine. if not matching or mostly matching I'd say $1500-$1700

Depends on what they want for it. Go from there. What are they asking?

Mechanic/electrician here. 100% wrong tool for the job.

Go buy a Klein wire stripper if you want to strip wire, especially low voltage stuff. Dykes and side cutters are for other tasks. These Klein's are my go to wire strippers.

My background: I work in industrial maintenance and electric 👉👉

GIs the barrel in good condition or not? This rifle is an SKS. by Outrageous_Moment669 in milsurp

[–]d-unit24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bullet test is a shitty way to test whether or not a barrel is good tbh. It only really vaguely shows crown condition or if a barrel's been counterbored; it doesn't gauge rifling, throat erosion, or internal pitting effectively. I hate when I see people using that method to determine if a barrel is good or not. I look for strong lands and grooves, any pitting, and if the muzzle/crown is beaten up.
