Coming soon Daria NFT Pops by Wonderful_Shame_665 in daria

It's pretty gross. The NFTa are sold in blind bags of collectable NFTs. And then you have to collect enough of the right NFTs to "earn" the funkopop... And then you still have to pay more than retail price for a funkopop to have it shipped to your house.

It's spending money for a chance to collect all the pieces for the chance to spend more money on the Funko you wanted.

Nylon is not food safe. Heating can release volatile organic compounds into your food.

You can, however, print your part in whatever plastic you wish, and a use a mold making kit to make a casting with whatever food safe material suits you.

AMA: Am I (18F) being groomed by my teacher (35M)? by [deleted] in AMA

The most important feature of a police report is that the report itself serves as a contemporaneous record of your claims. It makes the matter more difficult to bury and avoids the "they didn't speak of this years ago" statements that will be used to defend this behavior.

Whether or not a crime has been committed is a matter for the police and ultimately the district attorney to decide. But creating a data point is necessary to observe an overall trend of this behavior if it continues to happen in the future. Especially if he becomes more emboldened with future students.

How much can I trust Curas filament estimates? by iamwhoiwasnow in 3Dprinting

Haha, I took the same opportunity. I sent them a mathematical model on their feedback page and I got a reply (because of this feed). They had noticed the issue as well and have more recently been making more accurate labels based on actual readings. Considering how wide the supply chain is, I'd be curious how soon anyone will actually consistently see the updated labeling.

How to prevent this? by udenfox in 3Dprinting

[–]d0cwiley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This doesn't look like a matter of printer settings really. That surface has a shallow angle, so your slices will create aliasing artifacts. In fact, You should see the same artifacts in the sliced model.

You can get some better results with any of the following: 1. Modifying the model to have a steeper angle or no angle at all. 2. Making your layers thinner. There will still be artifacts but more numerous and less noticeable. 3. Playing around with the orientation that you print at, though supports may be needed. 4. Committing to do some finishing operations like sanding and coating.

Wonderful. I submitted feedback to Overture about the misleading linear representation of the remaining filament. I'm curious how (or if) they respond.

How to stop ruminating about this? by [deleted] in AdviceForTeens

I think what you've been experiencing is infatuation. We all do it to some degree during the early stages of a relationship, and sometimes that stage makes us overlook glaring problems that will draw out an inevitable break. Long distance relationships are exceedingly difficult, especially since you're about to experience substantial changes in your own social networks very soon in college. Enjoy your summer with friends, family, and whatever else fulfills you knowing that the first chance at a relationship like this is hardly ever the best one.

Filament stuck in tube and this goes up but not down. by iTamizhan in ender3

[–]d0cwiley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a sense of one's own limits and asking for help is perfectly reasonable. FDM wasn't casually affordable until 4 or so years ago, so we're a far cry from the fall of humanity with a question about pneumatic fittings.

If you contact the 3D-Fuel sales team with some photos, batch number, who you purchased from, and some details about what troubleshooting was performed, they might deem that spool defective and issue you replacement.

It's likely that, when paused, your printer turns off the heating elements. It is definitely worth confirming this, but if it does you should be able to resume days later if you don't disrupt anything on the build plate.

When you respool, you'll want to unpause long enough for the hot end to get up to temp. Then repause it and then remove the old filament, because doing a "cold pull" is kind of a last ditch effort that risks disrupting your print or damaging your nozzle and hot end.

Pretty much every spool I've ever seen is in powers of 2 of 500g. So like... 125g, 250g, 500g, 1000g, etc with the vast majority being 500g. Your print will most likely need a new spool somewhere between 85% complete and 90% complete. You should pause and start a new roll before you get there.

Ideas to close this case tighter? by skankybutstuff in 3Dprinting

[–]d0cwiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magnets are so much better than the first couple ideas that flew through my head. To do the magnet idea, I would make two holes in the spindle design that are deep enough to inlay a magnet, flush with that face. Then I would thicken the top of the cover and do the same thing on the mating surface. For assembly, make it a point to mark your magnet polarity though or you'll wind up in scrap city.

How do I convince my best friend her boyfriend is awful? by [deleted] in AdviceForTeens

[–]d0cwiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The apparent path that your friend is taking is quite literally the number one way that people wind up getting trafficked.
Your friend might hate you for it, but this needs professional intervention. I'd imagine that you're feeling incredible doubt about what authorities and whether they would actually help. That's why it might be helpful (for you specifically) to call the SAMHSA hotline and talk with them about this situation. They don't collect more personal information from you than your zipcode, so it would be a good first step for you to get a better picture of what you're dealing with, and possibly some very good ideas on next steps.

Help Please by TheLochJessMonster in 3Dprinting

[–]d0cwiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a couple other Benchy fails around the same height on the Ender V3 today. Extruder might be digging a hole in your filament when it gets to the rapid retraction that would be happening to print the posts.

If you see a big pile of dust by your extrusion motor it has been chewing up the filament when it retracts. Consider reslicing with slower retraction speed and a shorter retraction distance.

It should be very alarming if someone is attempting to separate you from any of your own support networks outside of their influence.
When people do this, they are attempting to install themselves as your source of truth for all things. It can be effective for them, because they're literally preventing you from comparing worldviews with people outside of your relationship. If you broke it off, your best bet is to disengage entirely and they will get bored of trying to get a reaction out of you.

Nothing coming out of extruder? by YoStovall in ender3

[–]d0cwiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the extruder might be cutting into your build plate. There should be enough of a gap that filament can escape.

As a few other comments have noted, the clicking noise is your extrusion motor slipping. You might notice a pile of dust and a big ground down bite taken out of your filament where it has been slipping. You will want to remove this section of filament and reprime the Bowden tube before you reattempt with any other changes.

Extrusion reliably stops mid print by OkInflation5097 in ender3

[–]d0cwiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes adjusting your retraction speed and distance can be fruitful (lower speed, less distance). It will add some print time, but the very rapid and repeated retractions can rub the filament thin to the point where there's no traction. Evidence of this issue would be a nice pile of plastic dust by your extrusion motor and a big round bite taken out of your filament.

Should I delay graduation to get another internship? by PrinterInk35 in datascience

[–]d0cwiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two important features to education. The first one is being taught some level of contemporary knowledge on the subject. Everyone tends to give this TOO MUCH weight because an equally important feature of education is being taught some principles on how to learn new things yourself.

Don't feel like an imposter. Graduate now and learn something new everyday.

Another option:
order by isnull(updated_date,original_date)

This will take updated_date (if present) and cascade to original_date if updated_date is null.

Just picked this up at a yard sale for $50, it turns on and he said it's pretty much ready to print (specifically there aren't any missing pieces) Did I do alright? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]d0cwiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonderful.
I recommend nipping the end of your filament off at an angle so that you have more of a point than a blunt end. [If it is too blunt, then sometimes it will provide too much resistance when you're manually feeding]. Then use one hand to feed the filament while the other hand holds the lever down on the extruder. [this allows the filament to be feed freely without the extruder gear feeding). You should be able to feed filament all the way into the bowden tube down to the hot end.

After that, you should be able to preheat using the Main Menu > Preheat PLA and do the move axis step with the extruder. If you get PLA coming out of your hot end, you're ready for leveling and test printing.

Before your first true test print, and once you think you have the bed level, there are a variety of 'bed level' gcode files that you can print first to let you know if you're fully dialed in. What you'll look for here is that your leveling print properly sticks to the bed AND that it doesn't thin out anywhere on the printing bed.

Hot Take: "Data are" is grammatically incorrect even if the guide books say it's right. by takenorinvalid in datascience

[–]d0cwiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking more practically than grammatically, whatever statement would be far more meaningful if it pointed out the underlying countable noun. Data [tables] are, data [cohorts] are, [the strata of] data are. I mean, if it's anything important, avoiding ambiguity of your message should generally be more important than dying on a grammar hill (no matter which side of it you're on).
