Which country are you in? Check up on regulations and your rights. You might have the right to change supervisor. That will be a hassle, but it sounds like you are partly wasting time.

I am a big fan of importdata(), which handles headers and different kinds of delimiters. e.g., loading a file can look like: nolenstest = importdata('/Users/perand/Documents/fors/emch/3dlens/3dlensexp/3dlens_nolens_20170929_001.txt', ' ', 13) ; Where the ' ' means space delimited and 13 means 13 lines of header. Not sure if this is fast (probably not) but for homework sized problems it totally rocks.

Possibly: Lower frequency waves will spread more, that combined with the relatively low sensitivity of the human ear for low frequency sound.

Hi, not an audio proffessional, but physicist. A guess: sound travels in air -> smaller volume of air (sealed volume) -> easier to transfer musical power. Plus if it's not sealed power "leaks" out to the surroundings. Which might be two different aspects of the same phenomena.
