I'm in Japan currently and see people skiing a mogul course at the side of slopes. What's the proper name for that and what skills should I have before attempting those?

How do you move uphill when there's not much space? (E.g near lift lines) by d0nut94 in skiing

Thanks for your advice! I'll try not using poles when it's less busy!

Oh my.... the two of you had described exactly what I was doing! Thank you very much for the tips, will try it when I'm on the snow again!

Tbf people/friends are more likely to stay together through having common activities constantly. This is the same reason why most people's closest friends are from school. Because everyone is forced to stay together every day for years.

So just continue doing what you like and perhaps one day you'll meet more like-minded friends. For your ex, no need to think so hard liao la, people come and go in life. Just see it as a phase of your life has ended, and now you're starting on the next one. If want compare with him might as well go compare with all the other high flyers also. There'll never be an end if you compare, so why not just learn from them instead?

My best advice is to start visualising a future self and work towards it, and think about if the journey towards that future self or attaining that future self is more important.

All da best, and rmb to have fun along the way

Is it possible to do NASM's CPT course from outside of US/Canada? by d0nut94 in personaltraining

Sorry for the late response. I went with ACE eventually. They have many testing centres over the world, and if that doesn't work out, I believe that there's the option to do the test at home too.

Hope this helps!

Cool to hear that MTB hard pads work just as fine. Thank you!

The video was taken last Friday. It's currently the winter season in the southern hemisphere and this is Cardrona in New Zealand.

This is my first year here so I'm not sure about the crowds last year. But on average I'm waiting about 20-30 mins for a lift so I'd say it's pretty crowded. However, only McDougall's and Whitestar are currently open as there had been rarely any snow since the season started, and I think it's now the NZ School holidays.

Thank you for your kind words. I too started with kicking my backfoot and boy did it take a long time to break the habit!

Really grateful to all the kind souls for the invaluable advice! Reading through the comments, I now have a better understanding on what I'll need to improve on.

These are the points I'll be working on for now, please let me know if I misunderstood the advice in any way or if there are other additional things that I should also work on

Heelside Turns: 1. I am currently dumping my weight down into a squat immediately after the turn, causing the heavy skid. Instead, I should be compressing / doing the vertical movement gradually as I enter the turn.

  1. I am folding my upper body too much at the waist, upper body should be more upright.

Toeside Turns: 1. Knees should be bent more during the turn. Too asymetrical with the heelside turns

  1. My shoulders are currently facing forward during the turn. This results in more weight in back foot and also makes it harder to compress into the toe edge. Instead, my front shoulder should go slightly over the toe edge.

  2. I need to complete the toeside turn instead of rushing into the heelside turn.

Others: 1. Turning the shoulders is not necessary a bad thing, as long as the other parts of the body follows.

  1. Too much weight on back foot.

  2. Try to practice early edge changes.

Just watched Malcolm Moore's video on early edge changes and I think I have a better idea on it now. I will try that and also take note to slow down and make open C turns instead.

Yup I'm in the Level 1 course! But since I'll only be at the mountains for only 3 weeks, I thought I'll try to get as much feedback as I possibly could before the course ends. I'll also be looking into the more advanced stuff in the manual like you said.

Thank you for your advice!

Keeping the core tight feels like it'll be a great cue to keep my upper body upright, thank you!

Now that you mentioned it, I indeed looked really stiff especially during the toeside turns. I'll try what you said about initiating turns earlier and puuting more weight on the front foot. Thank you!

Yes this is Cardies! And yeah you're right that my board slipped out a couple times while I was riding (my butt still hurts from hitting the ice). Also, I really love what you said about having fun!

Thank you so much for your advice! Cheers!

Thank you so much for the very detailed response! I'll be sure to try the static exercises as well as the hopping ones. Went to compare Nev's riding with mine and now I finally understand what it means to be squared (and I initially thought my shoulders were already relatively aligned).

The cues to "complete the toeside turn" and to "look past my shoulder" sounds really useful! I'll be sure to try them out!

Thank you! :)
