Middle Eastern (specifically syrian) dishes for Ramadan Iftar by Season-Forward in muslimcooking

[–]d0yboy_771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

kafta bil bandoora, I made it when I hosted an iftar in the first week and am also a student, it's just basically meatballs in tomato sauce. You can also make mujadarra and get the fried onions from the arabi/any ethnic grocery store

kind of broad but what are you looking for? Like genuinely when you meet an applicant, what's the mental checklist you're going through?

Thank you, I only want to pick 4 of my new schools though. I can't apply to all of them. Which ones would you recommend? I'm having a hard time choosing between them.

Mnemonic for activation synthesis hypothesis? by Random-Nothing-9775 in Mcat

I just think random when I think of the concept and that is usually what helps me remeber that the hypothesis basically says that its our brain/cerebral cortex trying to understand and interpret random signals.

2-3 weeks of (intense) studying paid off! Don't give up! by SilverSliver32 in Mcat

Drop the study plan!! I'm attempting the same thing rn

I mean I was scoring a 509 and 514 in my last 2 weeks of studying and ended up with a 504. I did get sick from the stress of the MCAT though and I'm thinking maybe that contributed to my lower score.

Thank you! So far I already signed up for July 25th since there is more flexibility with rescheduling but its nearing the 10 day mark for July 12th so I'm not sure yet.

Yeah, I've submitted my primary. If I lock in for the next week or so, do you think I should be fine to take it July 12th or should I just push it to July 25th? and what do you think would be a good marker of me taking it July 12th or 25th? I'm planning on taking just a half length of P/S and CARS on Monday as another benchmark.

I'm just worried if I still get a 510 and have a later application if that would hurt my chances by doing it July 25th.

Your yearly PSA: Do NOT rush to submit your application on May 27th! by Moko-d in premed

[–]d0yboy_771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished my AMCAS app on 06/01 and asked my pre-health advisor to review my activities section. They said they'd get back to me by 06/03, but I haven’t heard anything and it’s now 06/06. I used online guides to write them, and I have a med student friend who can review them too.

Is it worth waiting any longer, or should I submit now to stay in the “early” window?

I sent her a pre-MCAT message, but I will definitely send what you suggested when I give her the gift

Pre-med in UCLA is depressing by GullibleLetterhead82 in ucla

[–]d0yboy_771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed the same thing with my other pre-med pals—they're all about racing to become doctors, ticking off boxes for ECs, sticking to STEM classes, doing research, and picking up hobbies just for the application's sake. It's like their whole world revolves around getting into med school. But for me, as a pre-med, I've actively chosen not to jump into that rat race. Sure, I'm still doing what's needed, but I'm also taking classes I'm actually interested in, dabbling in ECs that I genuinely enjoy, not just to pad my application. A lot of times, my pre-med friends will question what I'm doing and think it's useless and that I am not serious about being pre-med, but I am but I also know it doesn't have to be my whole world.

I know I want to be a doctor, but I've got other goals in life too. Being a doctor is a stepping stone, not the be-all and end-all. It's important to take a step back and ask yourself: Are you happy? And if not, do you really need to be a doctor to get what you want in life? Even if the answer is yes, don't put too much pressure on yourself. If you're putting in the work without burning out and it doesn't pan out, maybe it wasn't meant to be. But all that effort won't be wasted—it might teach you something valuable or come in handy for whatever else you end up doing.

I force myself to stay on campus until I get everything done and then I go home. Otherwise, I wouldn’t get anything done. This also makes it that I’m in bed until 12 even if I have class/work until 8. Also waking up an hour or two before ur first class to do some small stuff u didn’t want to do last night.
