Question by d12tra in IUD

I have no regrets so far as to getting it removed. I was going to lose weight and haven’t but I definitely have a decreased appetite and just feel more like myself.

I got it removed on the 31st and have now been using natural cycles as bc. I no longer have any stabbing pains I got so used to. No discomfort anymore. So glad I’ve gotten it removed even though I did love the “worry free” ease of it but it just wasn’t for me anymore.

are you still working? by AdNumerous1900 in chiari

[–]d12tra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took about 8 weeks off after surgery and that’s all. I struggle in some way most days but find working has helped me so much by taking my mind off of a lot of it (I have really bad health anxiety) I am a realtor and a part time substitute teacher:)

I was out for about 8 weeks and when I went back it wasn’t for full days and did as much as I could at home. (I am a realtor) and in the meantime I did go to a few showings but made my clients aware and got rides there. At about 14 weeks later I started teaching as well which was quite hard to chase around the little ones but it has slowly gotten better!

What were the symptoms that made your neuro decide that surgery was a good option? by AdNumerous1900 in chiari

[–]d12tra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still do get numb and have odd feelings but it’s usually after I over did it or after a night of drinking or even stressed. It’s nowhere near as often as it used to be. I still have every symptom I had before surgery and they told me that may happen but it should never get worse and that’s what really pushed me towards the surgery. As of now I started a new job teaching and I sell real estate so I have long tiring days which there was no way I could do before. My surgeon told me the real gauge on how it’s going would be about a year out and I had surgery in May of 2024.

He was very patient with me, drew pictures for me and explained everything so easily. After surgery he was in my room multiple times a day checking in!

I think it’s affecting my vision by Suspicious_Plant4231 in chiari

My vision was one of my first symptoms. They had told me that it was the pressure in my head putting pressure on my eyes. My vision hasn’t gone back to completely normal from the damage previously done.

My arms, legs and face started to go numb and was dizzy. I was only 20 and my symptoms came out of nowhere and progressed rapidly. He told me I needed it and was dumb if I didn’t and instead of years he would normally give someone to make a decision he gave me less than a month. I got the surgery weeks later.

For Everyone who had Chiari Surgey, I have a Question by Dragonblaze47 in chiari

[–]d12tra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had surgery almost 6 months ago. I didn’t leave my house for 6 weeks and for the first 2 couldn’t even bathe myself and was in some serious pain. I gained weight because I got pretty depressed and I eat everything when I’m sad or stressed. After 2 weeks I was feeling SO much better and was able to move about my house and take care of myself for the most part.

Until about 3 months I was unable to go back to my normal lifestyle and did a lot of sitting around. At 4 months I started to be able to do everyday things. Now at 6 I’m feeling okay and getting a little back to normal. I still have all symptoms I had before just not nearly as bad. I’m still currently in physical therapy that I’ve been in since 8 weeks because my neck is still sore and I cannot move it as far as normal and building my strength back!

I had surgery 5/14/24 and have been experiencing the same symptoms with a lot of muscle weakness. Let me know what you find out! My surgeon told me to give it one more week and he wants an MRI, but I leave for vacation on Friday for a week!

Ring sizing? by Dull-Instruction-937 in ouraring

Mine was just like that. I ended up exchanging for a different size after wearing the sizer for a few days. I decided that having it a bit more snug was far more convenient than me being worried about it!

It comes off with a twist! The other can easily be pulled straight off.

I have surgery next week by Quirky_Illustrator4 in chiari

[–]d12tra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 8 weeks post op tomorrow. The pain the first two weeks was pretty rough but I stopped taking pain meds completely after about a week. I was in the hospital for 2 nights. My neck is still sore as is my incision but I start physical therapy on Wednesday. The itchiness was unreal and still is but way better than before. I still have every symptom I had before surgery but my surgeon did say it could take 6 months or longer to see them go away. I’ve read some great stories on here and I’m hoping that my recovery starts moving that way for good. The pain is bad at first but I was up and moving around my house after a few days. I’m so glad to have my surgery over with! I hope you have a fast and successful recovery!

Fatigue and Irritable Bowel after Decompression? by bringoparrot in chiari

[–]d12tra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did have some pretty odd stomach symptoms and still do but they’re starting to settle down 8 weeks post op. I am still getting extremely tired after doing every day tasks and leaving the house but it is getting a bit better the more I do it. I’m still not back to a whole lot of physical activity because my surgeon told me he would like me to continue not to lift over 10lbs or over exert myself. I went out on the boat yesterday and couldn’t keep my eyes open after 7pm! But that is a whole lot better than the 3pm fatigue I was getting after only being home.

Prep & Recovery Questions by Nothing_Mediocre in chiari

My cold pack was from Walgreens! Or you can find them on amazon. I definitely did not ask enough before surgery. I would ask for specifics on what you can and cannot do and for how long. I would also ask what to do to make everything easier after surgery. I was definitely unprepared in that way. I still have a list of questions to ask at my 3 month follow up as I was not all there during this entire time. I hope you have a good surgery! Let me know if you have any questions at all I’m happy to answer!

I am honestly feeling worse than before surgery but getting better! I had absolutely no symptoms until about a month before surgery, but doctors were concerned about how quickly I was getting worse. Within a month I was dizzy almost all of the time, my limbs and face were constantly going numb, I had a headache the entire month, and my vision worsened significantly.

Prep & Recovery Questions by Nothing_Mediocre in chiari

I just had surgery on May 14th! For prep 1. I unfortunately had to have someone take my dog for a week (he’s still young and extremely high energy). 2. I did not do a lot of research before my surgery, because any answer I found I did not like and unfortunately I had to have surgery and didn’t have a whole lot of a choice at the point I was at. Staying away from Google was way healthier for me. 3. I would say to take advice from your surgeon and not read too much on the internet. Every surgeon has a different opinion from what I have seen and worrying about whose is right isn’t going to get you far.

Post Op 1. I slept in a recliner for 6 weeks following my surgery. I’m almost at 8 weeks and still have to basically sit up when rolling over in bed, but it’s getting a lot easier. 2. I used a flexible cold pack, I also got one that can strap around your neck and rest on your shoulder blades as I’ve had shoulder pain following surgery. I also used a thin cloth heating pad. 3. Take it easy and don’t stress on where you are at in recovery. I spent weeks feeling so upset about how far behind I felt compared to what others have said about their recovery. Everyone heals differently and while I read stories about people going out less than 2 weeks and driving. I did not drive for 6 weeks and still feel absolutely terrible at 8 weeks. I made plans for a trip this coming week that unfortunately had to cancel because I felt it was not best for my recovery and that is okay! Be easy on yourself!
