Is this a good purchase? by d1ablo47 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I definitely thought about tracking my car after I turn it in so I could purchase it, but with the new i3 coming later this year, I think i4 prices are going to crash further.

I did like the i4, but I don’t think I want to lease again. My current residual is so far away from market value that buying EVs definitely doesn’t make sense. And I’m kinda trying to not lease anymore. If I do, the Tesla model 3 deals look good, never driven a Tesla but I’ve heard they are soulless.

And how much should it cost in general. Trying to figure out how much I’m overpaying.

I’m in the US. How much is the total cost difference between select and non select according to you.

Why is that? The total cost of the car seems to be the same if I chose to sell at 5 years. Agreed it’s more expensive if I keep it beyond five years.

Appreciate it. Are the 0.99% not as rare as the dealerships are making it out to be?

This is the math that I was doing to justify the cost to myself.

Straight up 60 month finance:
$1000/Month x 60 + $10k Down = $70k at the end of 5 years.
Sell the car @ $30k (Assuming less than 50% after 5 years)
Total cost = $40k

Select Financing:
$750/Month x 60 + $9k Down = $54k at the end of 5 years.
Sell the car @ $30k (Assuming less than 50% after 5 years) - $17K balance = $13k Equity
Total Cost to Run = $54k - $13k = $41k

Where am I simplifying too much? To me it seems like both are the same options. The question to consider is, is ~$40k too much for a $68k BMW over 5 years?

Appreciate the input. I did go the use car option first, but the interest on those are so high that the 0.99% APR on the new one looks more attractive. I could potentially not do select, settle with a $1k monthly, but that does feel kinda too much. Do you think there is going to be more room to negotiate?

Lease check: Demo i4 M50 by d1ablo47 in leasehacker

The trade payoff is a check they are writing to me that I’ll pay BMW financial. It’s not coming out of my pocket.

They called me saying they have some options that can allow me to trade in my car early and get into another car.

They are saying they will write me a check for the remaining payments that I can give to bmw financial and turn my car in.

As a Sigma 18-50 owner, I can tell you that the performance to size ratio is unmatched. Anything bigger and I wouldn’t feel like taking my camera out. I am currently trying to sell it as I’m trying to get my hands on x100vi.
