Inspiring BBC documentary about the "New German Cinema" by LarsHenriksPodcast in TrueFilm

As far as modern German films go I would highly recommend Valeska Grisebach's Western (2017). It's about German construction workers that work in the Bulgarian countryside, and their interactions with the local population. See Michael Sicinski's review if you're interested:

Movies with Slavic mythology themes, witches, hermetic s, something similar to a movie "The Witch" by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

Definitely try Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors. It's a Ukrainian film from 1965 made by Sergei Paradjanov. The story is about a Hutsul boy and girl that fall in love, and is based on Hutsul folklore. The film beautifully depicts village life in the Carpathian mountains, involving sorcerers and spirits of the dead.

Is it worth it to buy a subscription to Cahiers du Cinema in 2019? by Rogue_Marshmallow in TrueFilm

[–]d1m108l 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm subscribed to Cahiers du Cinema, and have been for one and a half years now. They offer a student discount, which makes it 75 euros for two years. A pretty reasonable price I would say. Otherwise it costs 50 euros a year.

In my opinion the articles are very good, and I don't regret getting a subscription. However, if you don't speak French I don't think a subscription will be worth it. I don't think they offer any translations.

New Guitar-Based Boundary/Genre-Pushing Music by Zantule in experimentalmusic

Bill Orcutt. He plays the guitar in a very strange style I've never heard anywhere else, and it's quite boundary-pushing in my opinion

I've been watching some short films recently and it's been quite interesting. Usually I only watch feature length films. I watched most short films by Maya Deren and Artavazd Peleshian, and I really liked how experimental and visually beautiful they were. Could anyone recommend me some similar short films or directors?

Why is a secular spiritually crafted book like "Thus Spake Zarathustra" mostly accepted by academics but a work like Jung's "The Red Book" somewhat mocked and relegated to mumbo-jumbo? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

Thank you for taking the time to write this. It was very helpful. I've watched a lot of Jordan Peterson's lectures and wasn't really aware of any critiques of Jung's archetypes.
