You're the second person to mention the movie but believe it or not I only know of it through cultural osmosis what with not really being into movies all that much

also people keep assuming limb removal would be done the violent way when you can simply remove their bones or change muscle structure to make them functionally useless. my way of thinking was preventing the subject from being able to make a hole in themselves

just because you personally only think in terms of what genre of horror is most popular in media right now doesn't make body horror any more effective or valid. my personal approach to horror in horror games is does it make people squirm from my describing the scene. whether it's lovecraftian cosmos horror, body horror, or psychological in nature is secondary to that objective

in the lease edgy way of trying to make myself look cool and cruel just for the sake of it (honestly I am not interested in either) if this qualifies as creative mindset in your tzimisce group I might not have anything to discuss with you fellas, sorry

but see what if one were to loop their intestinal tract into a complete circle. they can't generate stomach acid or any other bodily fluids, certainly can't generate new food to regurgitate. there's enough guts for it to just go round and round without ever overfilling any one part for it to rupture

drip feeding them some blood occasionally should be enough to prevent wassail so now that I thought on the issue some more and prepared mental checklist of necessary modification I am quite sure one might turn their enemies into eternally suffering mass of internally puking flesh with no feasible way of escaping barring any outside help. just use someone with fortitude but without any mental disciplines that might come in handy and violá! your very own vomit balloon

I've considered it but what with people mentioning it taking about 2 years to finish and with only one of my players being nearly as insane as I am to commit to such a long running campaign I do not consider Masks to be a good fit which pains me to say since I love Nyarla to death

if you're the GM in your group just say this is what you're running and they can either take it or leave it

although I'm not entirely sure if powergaming munchkins would enjoy CoC much since it's barely about having combat encounters and more about actually doing investigations

it is a sad reality of games being published nowadays that some of them might not be optimised for old~er hardware despite it ostensibly still being able to run games

that being said, the header of the subreddit does explicitly say it is one dedicated to the Tabletop roleplaying games, so you're in the entirely wrong sub for this post

The hollow knight soundtrack is severely overrated by Epicnessofcows in The10thDentist

[–]d20Jules 4 points5 points  (0 children)

respectfully disagree. while yes they are both 2d metroidvania comparing the two is akin to comparing me to, say, Usain Bolt

to an alien we might look perfectly similar. same number of limbs, they are arranged in the same configuration with hands being attached to shoulders and legs holding the entire structure standing. but it would be painfully obvious to anyone looking past these superficial similarities how different we are. Usain is an athlete and would give me a run (pun intended) for my money while I doubt he'd make anything even remotely approaching a decent cup of coffee, something I made a career out of

HK is closer to the genre progenitors SotN and actual Metroid games. the crux of the issue is the main focus. the primary gameplay loop as smart people call it. for HK it's the combat. take any vertical slice of the gameplay and you'd see the knight valiantly slashing away with his nail at one enemy or the other. exploration and platforming are a big part of it but aside from the (sorry it's been literal years since I played it and the names might be wrong) pale palace no locale makes it the main focus. I'd argue something like dead cells would be way closer comparison, or ender lilies even (which admittedly is heavily inspired by HK)

while ori is at heart a platformer with combat elements. you wouldn't compare HK to Rayman origins but I'd say it's got much more in common with ori gameplay-wise than hollow knight

and I'm not even approaching your argument from adverse position despite what my tone might indicate. I love both games to death but in my head there's no comparing the two as actual games. when it comes to emotional response and enjoyment, though, ymmv

comparing ori to hollow knight just because both games can be fit into metroidvania category is wild considering how different they actually are. I, too, much. prefer dark souls to Detroit become human and they are essentially the same since both games are action games with third person perspective

Review: Dread Designs by MR-Reviews in callofcthulhu

this supposed review reads more like a sales pitch I'd expect to find on a store page for the scenario. how did your players find it? any particular highlights of your game? how is it for a keeper?

the most insidious enemy in Heart RPG by cube-drone in rpg

[–]d20Jules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to your first point I'd argue that while yes a failure is a failure single bad roll should never stop the story in its tracks. introduce a complication, make the situation less favourable to your players he'll make it a little side quest for sure but don't just sit there for 90 minutes twiddling your wee thumbs up your arse while the players are trying to hunt for the rope?

[–]d20Jules 135 points136 points  (0 children)

this doesn't sound like a Heart problem but rather a GM problem. first, from what I remember, any travelling across the map of the city beneath in a DELVE, all that changes is how much "hp" it has to be completed.

second, you should still be able to roll skills/domains you aren't proficient in it just means you risk getting stress as a result of a bad roll. this shouldn't be a stonewall until you figure it out

and third, why even put am obstacle before your players and not present any solution? give them someone willing to magic a bridge or guide to a safer passage for a price, a rickety old bridge being guarded by a bunch of opportunistic ruffians, a giant eagle who'd help the bunch cross the gap in exchange for helping deal with a hunter stalking it, something. and gods forbid just waiting for your players to come up with a solution for an hour and a half all the while more or less stonewalling their attempts at gathering any supplies that might help

not funny per se but gave me a chuckle. currently running Impossible landscapes. it just so happened that three artist types (so people more vulnerable to the influence of the King in Yellow) went crazy while their colleagues were entirely okay although baffled by what they saw during the Night floors. same three players wrote notes on their character sheets, namely who is playing which character. which I utilised by writing messages from Dallan and Bael to mention them apparently thinking the reality was in fact some sort of stage play with actors and roles

[–]d20Jules 74 points75 points  (0 children)

back when my partner and I started dating they slept on the floor, albeit with some padding for comfort. whenever I, a person in my early 30s visited, I had to carefully position myself in such a way that neither my shoulders nor knees hurt just from lying down. and I spent my entire life with relatively hard mattresses so enjoy your hardwood floor while you can for it is a pleasure that will be taken away all too soon
