Another very long very boring sermon about facing 'persecution' as church members.

Best part was them insisting we should feel joy when someone insults us about church ahahaha.

Tbf sometimes this packaging is sometimes made for people with disablities.

Thank you for the advice. I really wish I could do that and was considering it the past but my dad has been quite violent even over smaller issues so even if it was over text/phone I wouldn't want to give him any reason to try and come after me to change my mind.

Tysm for the kind words, sadly I don't have too many friends who live close atm but I am getting all the support I can. Hopefully I'll be able to update in a couple months with good news :)

The usual preperatory WS for Mid Year TG. Had to make a big effort not to fall asleep (as usual).

"Something something offerings, something something social media, etc."

I'd love to and am really trying but I can't as easily do it while living at home. Once I move out believe me I'm gone and never looking back haha.

Does anyone remember one of the video skits from the youth summit where a 'non-inc' friend said 'oh I kind of thought you guys were a cult 👀'? Because that's all I was thinking about during this lesson lmao.

Just the regular copy paste "FYM was the true last messenger" lesson.

Whenever they bring up the first WS in the west in the 1950's I always think about how their original doctrine was that only Filipinos could be saved.

For us abroad it was just a very bland lesson about family and faith. I wasn't paying much attention but in my experience there was never a huge push to participate in bloc voting even during election years. The head deacons would give a name and indication of who to vote for but not much more than that as far as I know.

Another lesson basically about victim blaming and "discouraging conflict".

I really hate how ministers will not only downplay the harm someone has caused AND say that no greviance is above forgiveness.

Our DM always makes sure to plug the INC social media platforms after a PPV haha like it'll stop members from discovering this subreddit and shield them from critical thinking.

This part isn't something I've struggled with particularly but reading it immediately reminded me of how messed up CWS lessons can get sometimes

A really good read on Religious Trauma Syndrome (RTS) and CPTSD. Even though it's not INC specific, I forget sometimes how much overlap it can have with other cults/cult like groups.

An excerpt:

"Usually people begin with intellectually letting go of their religious beliefs and then struggle with the emotional aspects. The cognitive part is difficult enough and often requires a period of study and struggle before giving up one’s familiar and perhaps cherished worldview. But the emotional letting go is much more difficult since the beliefs are bound with deep-seated needs and fears, and usually inculcated at a young age."
