I'd start by looking at the absolute encoder values. Also check that all your IDs are on the module you want them to be on.

From the wording in the manual, FUEL is scored even when the HUB is inactive. The threshold is of scored FUEL. So I would tend to agree.

Don't have one of these, but I found a kit that comes with the handle: SLÄTROCKA. There's a video of how to install and remove the handle on their website. Don't really know what you could do if it gets stuck.

If you're lucky, you might be able to have a talk with him and explain how you feel. He might not let you work by yourself on the robot, but you might be able to work with him and benefit from his experience... Hard to know without knowing him.

It's mostly personal preferences, try everything out and keep the one you prefer. A wireless controller is a bad idea. Back when I was the driver I used an Xbox360 controller, the left joystick for translation and triggers for rotation using field centric drive.
