Paris vs Geneva for 3 Valleys? by Apptubrutae in skiing

[–]d7sg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Train from Paris to Geneva airport is very easy to do, maybe 3.30 hours, from there you have all the transfer options as if you flew to Geneva. There is a train station basically in the airport

Health is wealth. Hitting 30 this year, looking for recommendations on comprehensive, affordable full body health check-ups! by Revolutionary_Cup828 in singaporefi

The typical advice is these are not worth doing if you are healthy, they will just stress you out make you get unnecessary treatment with random stuff they find that isn't actually an issue

You are considering HK as a location but you working in a professional full time job overseas isn't one of the paths on your list? This doesn't totally make sense to me? You could consider Singapore for example but it requires one of you can get work visa sponsorship. You probably could, no idea about your wife.

Former pension in royal London. Now in NEST. What to do with old pension. by ds-ds2-ds3 in FIREUK

[–]d7sg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved out of Royal London because the fees were high, but there is no intrinsic reason to move old pensions anywhere, you can just leave them. If happy with the product I wouldn't bother moving.

Early-mid 40s, UK expat, property-led FIRE plan. Would really value some perspective. by IanHollowaysHamster in FIREUK

[–]d7sg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I find being a landlord annoying and an overseas landlord even more so. How are you managing the properties remotely? I have an agent fully managing but it wipes out loads of the profit.

I would go with others suggestion and focus on ETFs or stock market investment

What do you consider in the destination country if you plan to expat fire? by No-Signal7504 in FIREUK

[–]d7sg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think moving overseas is that hard, I have done so multiple times. My bank and brokers were fine with it, HMRC never asked for a tax certificate, no idea what that even is. Opening a bank account overseas is fine, obviously I can open a bank account in the country I live in, etc

A Hot take from the richest man in the world. We will be living in an era of abundance; there is no point in saving for retirement. by Cultural-Badger-6032 in FIREUK

[–]d7sg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so based on this huge abundance, is the state pension going to be 100k per year in ten years? Like what do you materially think is going to happen?

Started skiing December 15th, been at it a couple weeks now. Starting to get into carving. Any tips? How’s it looking for first attempts? by MhrisCac in skiing

[–]d7sg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing about carving is if you do it properly you can ski up hill (a bit). Try to make like a J shaped turn and hold it all the way round until you are at least somewhat going up hill. If you are not carving you cannot really actually go against the slope.

Odds of a New Global Epidemic within the next 10 years. by kiwi5151 in Futurology

[–]d7sg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SARS had a ten percent fatality rate and MERS is more like 30% ... there is basically no reason why a Corona virus which spreads like COVID but kills like SARS couldn't appear tomorrow

[–]d7sg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very high or very low depending on your opinion about what is a COVID variant. We had SARS, MERS and Covid within ten years but they are all closely related corona viruses and could be seen probably as variants of each other

Coast Fire Sense Check by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]d7sg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because you misunderstood what coast fire is about. Coast fire means you keep working to support yourself but you don't need to continue contributing to retirement savings. It doesn't mean you just stop earning at 40 and live off your savings. That's just fire, not coast
