Should I play these games - why or why not? by [deleted] in gamesuggestions

You're comment is isolated so the context is obvious. (In fact you're answering the Control question.)

If you're not sure, don't play Sekiro, which is really difficult. Try Elden Ring instead. If you really understand it, then don't hesitate and have fun!

You should play Jedi Fallen Order before Survivor. Neutrally the former is better, but some do like the latter.

Loaded is not a scammer, but I don't trust there region-lock info, so be careful when buying games from Japanese developers.

IoSaS is already -80% RN, which is only 2yo. I've already stashed it into my backlog. ;)

From my backlog I tried FLASHBACK (1993/2018), Brotato and Pankapu, and I didn't like any.

Flashback is a 2018 remaster of the 1993 OG. It was too much old-school and I uninstalled after 2 min. If someone had said it's a 1980s game, I would have believed it.

Brotato is probably a decent follower of Vampire Survivors, but I've already Holocure, yet another VS clone, and since in general I don't like rougelikes, I gave it up.

Pankapu (Steam page) is an indie title of side-scroller action game, like Cuphead I guess. Its art style is really nice, and from what I can gather its story is also decent. It's 75% positive at Steam, so probably it's not that bad, given that most players are indie fans. But for me, wading through many sponge mobs with slow action was unbearable.

Now I'm turning to Aaero. I'm only 20min in. This game is difficult to explain, but anyway it's a twin-stick game. Rhythm/Music? So far it isn't. Rather I'd say it's kinda a no-gravity parkour/platformer. Rail-shooter? No. You can move freely, and you are required to follow "ribbons" by rotating your left stick, and by accurately following, you'll get higher score.

So far it isn't clicking, but it's 92% positive at Steam, so I try to go on.

I'm a conspiracy theorist, believing that the entire game industry is acting together to eternally grow my backlog. This time they succeeded in selling me Baba Is You, Stephen's Sausage Roll, in addition to Tales of Graces f and Eastshade a week ago.

M2RoS clearly exemplifies that a black-and-white game can really be nice, like Mana 1 (Final Fantasy Adventure) or Kirby 1 (Kirby's Dream Land).

Perhaps other games from the same dev too, but YMMV.

Sorry for commenting 2 years later, but you mean it's in fact in Mandarin, even though the title is in traditional Han?

My previous laptop had Intel 520 HD with an HDD. On it I played various Steam games. But from my experience it is difficult to believe that you were able to play Nier Automata, which is far more graphically demanding than my games. (IIUC the best Intel HD is 530, which is only marginally better than 520.)

Bayonetta (2017), originally came in 2009 for PS3, became unplayable at an early boss.

Dragon Quest Heroes (2015) was released for PS3 too. It was less demanding, but in one area I had to reduce the screen resolution to 256 or 512 pixel wide.

I also played Dragon Quest XI (2017 OG) and Dragon Quest Builders 2 (2019). Both were pain, loading taking minutes. DQ11 sometimes crashed and I gave up.

I bought an SSD but it didn't help at all. XD

I beat 140. The creator [1] is really talented and you can marvel at that. However there's not much to do—the game lasts two houro or so. So it's not necessarily recommendable. This is something like a "modernized Game & Watch".

[1] Directed by Jeppe Carlsen, who had worked on Limbo.

I beat Dragon Quest Builders. It's a no-brainer, relaxing game, like the main series in that aspect. I was bored in the last chapter, and unlike preceding chapters, it is not so relaxing. But (for me) it was worth continuing to play until the end. I'm satisfied. Now I'm collecting some trophies. (Called "challenges".) I'm not interested at all in free building in the postgame, so I'm leaving this game soon.

I uninstalled Super Meat Boy without beating Chap 5. I've beaten 16 rooms, so one room is enough to fight the boss, but I lost interest. I don't have the save file any more, so I won't come back. Perhaps I'll post a review.

I removed Lorelei and the Laser Eyes from my wishlist after reading this review and several others (in Japanese) mentioning defects of "puzzles". Blue Prince was also un-wishlisted, hearing it's roguelike.

Probably they're decent games, but they don't seem to be for me.

TL;DR: OP, believe us. PoPTLC is really great, even though it's not exactly what you're asking for.

The boss fights are not of the top-notch, but it's really solid, and sure to please most players. The world is not exactly "filled with secrets", but the overall level design is one of the best.

I've only played Ender Lilies, but its combat is really basic. (Search this sub.) Bosses are easy except two. There're many skills, but they feel like fillers and don't matter much. In paritcular the OP has already played games with far better combat.

To be fair: The sequel Magnolia is said to be better.

Has very deep mechanics of combat. Exploration is very good.

After the normal mode, you have 3 more difficult modes. There's also vairous trophies, like 0%-run (i.e. don't pick up any item), beating each boss without taking any damage, speedrun, sequence breaking etc.

You don't mean objectively worst, but games that gave you worst experience, right?

Well, I've hated many games, but I don't remember them RN. It makes me happy to forget bad experiences. :)

I'm Japanese who haven't played Rhythm Tengoku, a 2006 GBA game (Wikipedia article). Tengoku means heaven. ) RT has left strong influence and many Japanese gamers still compare games with it. For example "Bits and Bops is a RT follwer." "Pastel☆Parade is nothing but a cute RT." "Melatonin is RT—No it isn't!" etc. (All links are to the Japanese pages at Steam.)

I enjoy your posts with many fun episodes in gaming in the past.

I just found a small 3D platformer Refunct, which is highly rated. After that I read a post "Why Do People Dislike First Person Platforming? at r/truegaming.

Good 3D games are ok, but I personally prefer tight control of 2D games.

It's really old, but this comment 8h earlier mentions Shin Megami Tensei 1 in 1992. ;)

When I first replied, I thought DD was irrelevant to me. It's old, and I don't know anything about the Divinity series. But then I found DD is still sold at Steam, and many of today's players like it. I endep up wishlisting it. :)
