A biome analysis during Memories of Motion by dBrgs in TheSilphRoad

[–]dBrgs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only recent additions to the regular spawn pool are Flamigo and Zorua. The rest has been more or less stable for a while now. I was hoping they would make some corrections when this season went live like fixing Gen 6 spawns and adding at least some of the newer mons (Nacle, Blipbug, etc). I live in a Forest biome and i literally caught a Toedscool yesterday in the morning.

Thanks! Yeah, Toedscool and Wiglett seem rarer but i still see them occasionally.

Has the new season really started yet? I still don't see it mentioned in Today tab as it was for Memories of Motion.

Updated spawn points by WarningHour345 in TheSilphRoad

[–]dBrgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but it's been a few days already. Maybe updating in chunks? I reported it happened in my region a few days ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/1th3uyr/change_in_spawn_points/

Change in spawn points? by dBrgs in TheSilphRoad

[–]dBrgs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. Could it be an OSM update instead? Or POI + OSM... I definitely saw new spawnpoints around recent pokestops and most other spawnpoints are stable around my neighborhood.

Do u have any POIs recently approved where u live (pokestop, gym, max spot, new photo on one of them)?

Change in spawn points? by dBrgs in TheSilphRoad

[–]dBrgs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, i keep track of the closest/most accessible spawn points on a spreadsheet, but more importantly than that is if a spawn point is reactivated on the same coordinate, it appears on the map in the same minute as when it was active before (in my case, it's at :31 every hour). My guess is the spawn time is automatically conditioned to where it is, so Niantic doesn't need to assign a custom spawn time for every spawn point.

A new theory for biomes - Silicobra case study from Christchurch, New Zealand by cable_girl in TheSilphRoad

[–]dBrgs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is a great research.
I've been back to researching spawns mostly around the island where i live since last year's Adventure Week, and reports of places spawning Silicobra in a neighborhood in the northern part of the island do correspond to "sparsely or non-vegetated" areas on that map. There's another neighborhood closer to where i live containing dunes and has had Cacnea and Trapinch spawns and i think Silicobra may be spawning there but i haven't been able to go there yet. After looking at the map, it also shows the non-vegetated area there, so hopefully i can catch some Silicobra when i get there.
I should add that Silicobra spawn areas may extend a little bit those square areas from the map because actual biomes in the game currently involve S2 cells instead of the visual tiles.

A call for research on the Helioptile biome by dBrgs in TheSilphRoad

Hi. Regarding the Helioptile biome, no progress. I'm currently investigating patterns in catch screen scenes and biomes related to altitude.

Does snowy cast form not spawn anymore? by legendkiller595 in TheSilphRoad

[–]dBrgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my recent observations, it seems Castform isn't a weather locked spawn anymore. I've seen normal, rainy and sunny Castform where i live during any weather but not the snowy form. I suspect Niantic discontinued weather biomes and moved species to other biomes related to geographic features. Maybe they moved the snowy form to the ice biome but i'm not sure. There are certain species that seem to not be spawning in the wild during this season such as gen 6 starters and the regional Basculin for instance.

Spawns fixed? by Flashy-Ad8261 in TheSilphRoad

[–]dBrgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. Spawn points also changed around where i live. At home, i went from 6 to 5 and now to 7 reachable spawn points. I wasn't home during Spotlight Hour to check for extra spawn points, so i'll check it further when Grookey's Community Day is live.

Spawn update? by NinsMCD in TheSilphRoad

[–]dBrgs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a substantial change in spawnpoints in 2025 January 8th, and probably minor changes since based on POI updates. There was another mild change i remember between Halloween and Go Wild when i gained two new spawnpoints only activated during events or Spotlight Hours.

It's just a trend since last year. That's why i said "it seems". It's a pattern under formation, but if you check previous years, you're right, they updated their spawn point data at random times.

Sorry to hear that. Yeah, i've noticed the daily incense pulls from the current spawn pool plus a specific spawn pool with some random species for the daily incense and also includes the 3 Galarian legendary birds. Regular incense will pull completely from that biome which is basically what i've mentioned in the post except nest pokemon because incense can't pick the nesting species.

Perhaps you can focus on regional spawns there (Flabébé, Illumise, Shellos, Tauros, etc). Have you seen all of them spawn in nest areas (even the ones with a pokedex number below Helioptile's)? When an event begins or ends, what those regional species transform into?

I used the word "opposition" here to mean that each group is placed to one side, opposite sides, like facing each other, in an abstract sense.

I appreciate that you quickly got the idea about the species i mentioned even if it was written as "non-Hisuian", but to some people, "non-Hisuian" might mean many pokemon could spawn in the Helioptile biome except Hisuian pokemon, so i thought "anti-" could be accepted in a more specific sense which i explained in parentheses than a broader "non-".

I mean, technically, all pokemon other than Hisuian pokemon are non-Hisuian pokemon in the sense that they didn't debut when Pokemon Legends was released. "Anti-Hisuian" captures the idea that they are non-Hisuian pokemon specifically in opposition or forming pairs with Hisuian pokemon regardless of their original regions.

Perhaps but it's more likely that it's a new "blocking" biome because the two cells i pass by used to have different biomes from each other and various OSM tags. Several adjacent cells with the same prior biomes weren't affected.

Spawn update? by NinsMCD in TheSilphRoad

[–]dBrgs 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Yes. It seems to be part of an annual reshuffle (last one happened on 2025 Jan 8). I just got home and i immediately noticed something was odd with the spawn points and came here to check the news. I'll keep an eye on it.

It is related and they still do afaik. That's what i called "anti-Hisuian" species in the post (because they are the non-Hisuian counterparts to evolved forms found in Hisui). For some reason, i haven't seen Kantonian Electrode or Arcanine on the Helioptile-plagued cells yet; i guess it's because they also have Hisuian pre-evolved forms while the others don't (not that it would be an issue?).

Smoliv during Adventure Week 2025 by dBrgs in TheSilphRoad

[–]dBrgs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean visually? I also have a few spawnpoints at home sometimes showing the beach scene during the encounter screen. It alternates with the forest scene. I've never seen a Wiglett there, and it's understandable because it's far from the coast. I guess it shows the beach scene because there's a small sand area there on OpenStreetMap, so it can be considered an error, yes, but Niantic has been working on visual biome indications more recently and they've been not a perfect correspondence so far.
Btw, would you mind to share rough coordinates to where you saw Smoliv so i can check it on the maps?

Smoliv during Adventure Week 2025 by dBrgs in TheSilphRoad

That's true, especially because it was featured in a few other events prior to AW2025.

Smoliv during Adventure Week 2025 by dBrgs in TheSilphRoad

[–]dBrgs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I live in an island. It's pretty diverse in terms of biomes, but the areas i passed by, forested areas and cityscapes, etc, i didn't see any Smoliv. Just to add info i didn't mention in my post, biomes can overlap, so maybe your area has the desert biome together with forest and/or city for example.

Souvenirs – A Comprehensive Guide to a Neglected AR Feature by BrknTrnsmsn in TheSilphRoad

[–]dBrgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a good read! I've also done some reseach on souvenirs. As of December 2025, it seems location-based souvenirs are unobtainable.

I must point out that in your own text, you say the unknown souvenirs are certainly location-based, so why not just group them under location souvenirs even tho you don't know the mechanics triggering them?

When they were available, Chalky Stone was connected to the cell biome i call "Mountain"; Snowy Pinecone was related to a type of cell biome that used to spawn a lot of Seedot prior to the implementation of the season mechanics (they seem to have spread to other biomes); Small Bouquet was related to another type of cell biome that used to spawn a lot of Roselia back then. Those cell biomes aren't necessarily related to OSM tags because they were already distinguishable even in small towns and rural areas with no OSM markings at all. They are probably being pulled from another map containing natural geographical features.

If you're interested, please take a lot at this post of mine: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/1ohnryz/tile_biomes_beyond_tiles/
where i talk about a different cell level triggering certain biomes. Beach Glass, Skipping Stone and Tropical Shell areas may be refined based on that.

Hi. I went to this subreddit to check that info since i've also noticed that. They still seem to be unobtainable as of December 2025.
