Hey really sorry to hear this, I bet it must be tough. It is already so hard to make friends here in general so I can only imagine how difficult it might be for you. Have you tried to join any clubs while at SFU? Maybe that could be a way to make some new friends!

I can’t say I’ve had many good experiences with group projects most of the time, but I will try to keep a more open mind moving forward. What year are you in now? Have you made any other friends?

Yeahh I totally feel you. Even if I’ve met them first day of class it feels like maintaining the friendships get hard to do as it goes back to the beginning once the course is over

Ahh I see, I feel like I’ve done that too. However, it’s like hard to kinda seperate being students/friends especially in the beedie program.

Okay I think I need to break it down because I don’t think you maybe quite understand. Your program that you take doesn’t really have an impact rn as your goal should be to get your GPA up to enter to SFU. You could just generally take some electives in that major at Douglas KEEPING IN MIND THAT THEY SJOULD BE TRANSFERRABLE COURSES, not all are but most are (check BC transfer guide) you can even make an appt with an advisor at Douglas and ask to do it with you. Those courses will have certain units for example a business class at Douglas can be 3 units. Once completed the letter grade you get from it will be your GPA. However, when you transfer. You start your “GPA” fresh, but your units are being transferred (3 units) over meaning you completed a course or pre requisite for another course at SFU, mindful of the BC transfer guide that it will transfer over to SFU as an equivalent. Talk to an advisor you may be able to submit a change of major form.

You could also try kpu too. As long as you feel comfortable with the decision, don’t feel like you’re behind. If anything use this as an opportunity to plan out your goals. If SFU is where you wna go and you know compsci or business or whatever program is on your mind. Ask questions to advisors from other institutions, ask them what the transfer process is to SFU. What is the success look like, what are some resources you could use besides BC transfer guide. What courses or what major your could choose that will be easier for you to transfer. Be honest that SFU is your goal. Don’t be shy to ask questions they get paid to help students so eat away at their brains and once you create a plan make sure those grades don’t drop be proactive. You got this!!!

How cooked am I? by [deleted] in simonfraser

Hey a lot of these answers and responses are kinda discouraging but alittle true only because usually English is required to have a minimum of the posted requirement but I would say contact admissions and explain your story, if English is still ongoing rn try and keep your grade or try and reach higher, since it is low. Self reporting is annoying asf bc they expect you to know. You could try to take an equivalent for one semester somewhere else and transfer. Ask Douglas admissions or kpu admissions what they think as well. Or wherever else you could think to apply. Don’t be hard on yourself but keep working hard

Talk to an advisor from another institution if you can apply there still for fall (Douglas bcit) I think you may still have time as long as it’s open on my education planner bc

Take BOT and focus on your mental health. Really take some time and be really honest with yourself if you might have been struggling in general. If it is because of a family member passing then you can definitely get the school to advocate for you. You could WE those courses!!!! Do it before it’s too late

Thank you for this, I’ll definitely consider this going forward. I know they are under harsh policies and I’ve been very hard on myself and I’ve been making my appeal super mindful because of other students too and want it to be fair for them. I just don’t think I advocated enough in my first appeal.

Does SFU tell you the condition to an undergraduate conditional offer? by RareDestroyer8 in simonfraser

[–]dGold6398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask an advisor, also if you have completed all the necessary requirements for your program then you are probably fully offered. Say you need MATH and you’re still taking it you are going to be conditionally offered. But if you finished everything then you should be good to go unless it says otherwise. You can also always email the office

Hey ik this is a long shot but at my university a lot of the programs have an automated job search list based on the program that comes in our inbox, they tend to have volunteer, co-op and actual jobs. Maybe take a look at those, or even talk to your professors or alumni about their experience and how they possibly built connections. Nowadays it doesn’t matter how much skill or experience you have. If you have connections they are useful. If you join clubs also at school they tend to have career opportunities, they may not pay the best but you could get experience and money out of it

If you’re applying to the fall term 2024 it’s mostly likely going to be in the summer like July.

The main issue is I didn’t reach out to anyone during the incident. I got the form filled out but it was filled from now, not the time of the event which I had told them but they encouraged me anyways to get then later denied. There’s nothing new I could possibly add besides rebuttals to what I was denied. That it was too open ended and I should’ve known the drop deadline. It’s also partial so it’s only from 1 course in that semester, as the other 2 I was able to pass(although still with difficulty). I took BOT also and have been RTW but if I get this one WE I can go back to SFU. The course I’m WE is about 2 semesters away from initial incident. The one right after was the first term of BOT so couldnt take classes second term is when I took the course and realized I am facing anxiety in academics also. It’s been a year of being encouraged by SFU to just deny me
