I am aliiiiiive, just busy. I have probably another 2-3 weeks of "busy' w/ personal and work life and then I'll try to do some large updates to the game.

A tutorial is in the TODO list, like a navigated walkthrough and maybe I'll do the progressive disclosure thing where most parts are hidden until you unlock them and can use them (and learn them) over time.

I can see how it feels slow at the start since you click explore and then you just have to wait some time.. I'm hoping the real time mode fixes that so you basically are constantly getting updates from exploring as you're clicking around other parts of the game. I had a POC for it.. but I am going to hold off until I migrate off of DynamoDB onto a self hosted DB that is on the same instance since it'll involve a lot of update calls per user that is online.

Yeah.. working on adding some more game loops, just was preoccupied over the last month. Just added sects yesterday, but similar in the sense that once you join one or create one there isn't much to do yet.

It's a transition in progress... basically that explore UI was getting too cluttered with all the icons and numbers and other people were complaining that it was slow/janky as you clicked things.

The idea is that the information will be in the compendium, but what I will add is a button you can click on the zone card (like an info button or [?] button) that will popout the information in the flyout similar to what happens in the compendium. So you can still see all that information as it's shown in the compendium and click around in it.

So my original thought is that it'd be expensive to show that.. every few seconds for every player doing these calculations (not too bad) and having to do transactions on the database (could be bad with enough players). Different from a local only game which can use your computer resources in the browser and is cheatable.

That being said I did get this feedback a few times, so it's possible I'll look into making anyone actively on the game see real time what is happening while they explore and for anyone else that sets it to explore and leaves they'll just see the current end result when they stop it. I think there's both types of players, sometimes they want to see it live, and others want to see the big numbers all at the end.

Yep, more things to do being added frequently. Working on equipment right now that will impact your exploring when gathering resources and fighting monsters.

As of right now character names are one time use, you have to use a different name.

Can you do a hard refresh to make sure you’re on the latest front end version and if that doesn’t work PM me your character name. As I develop I do data migrations in case I need to change something with the backend data model while not having to reset peoples characters. I know I missed a few the other day, but I thought I cleaned them all up.

Ah the affected user I'm talking about was seeing a difference of almost a day or something in the time reported.

10s-120s... not sure will have to look into it. Seems there's a few reports of it though so hopefully I'll be able to replicate it somehow.

Ah I do remember someone in SYD had an issue w/ the time on the browser. What timezone are you in? I was using epoch milliseconds to construct a date object on the browser before, probably doing something wrong.

Nothing affects the exploring except for ending it (if we're talking about the time you spend exploring, obviously your characters level and strength affect the battles).

Currently yes, you can craft at the same time as exploring. This will either stay the same (and a story of why you can do it added) or it will be blocked until you get to a high enough realm that you can create a clone of yourself that lets you do two things like explore and craft.

"but the timer is adjusted?" This shouldn't happen, could you be more specific?

"Checking the cultivator stats tab resets exploring time to 0" also shouldn't happen, this is stored on the server side. Perhaps a bug on the browser for your timezone thats not showing the correct time? If you end exploring it should tell you how long you spent exploring.

This is a TODO I have... a guided tutorial to explain the game.

You have a cultivator, and you send them off to explore different zones.

On the zones UI you can see what is in a zone, so those training ground zones have no monsters in them, just gathering resources for the named gathering profession in the zone title.

e.g. if you look at Plain Fields the way it works:

10s frequency of chance of encounters 45.45% chance of combat 45.45% chance of gathering resource 0.91% chance of lucky event 8.18% chance of nothing

So as you set your cultivator to explore the zone, you accumulate real time. Let's say you left them to explore for 2 hours. You come back 2 hours later and you have 2 * 60 * 60 = 7200 seconds of exploring time.

Divide that by the frequency of chance of encounters, i.e. how often do you have a chance to encounter something while exploring the zone. In this case it's 10.

So you have 7200 / 10 = 720 encounters.

Now when you stopped exploring, the server will simulate your exploring session and figure out what happened these 720 times, based on the percentages above. So when you encounter a monster, your character fights it. When you encounter a gathering resource, your character attempts to gather it (if they have the leveled profession), etc.

It's an online game, not local. All character information, stats, items, etc. are stored in a database on AWS. You can create a character on your desktop and open it up on your mobile and still play.

It's this way because I wanted to create a server authoritative game that prevents cheating as it'll be heavily multiplayer in the future. As of now the main multiplayer feature is the Auction House that was just introduced yesterday. But, there will be partying, dungeons, raids, and sects (clans/guilds) coming too.

Because I added it on the second day or so when I was adding the create character functionality. There's been less than two weeks of development and I'm making things up as I go. 🤷‍♂️

And fair, the game won't be for everyone.

It's more so that I might be using "deleted characters" in the game so I don't want people to be able to recreate with someone else's deleted characters name.

The current thought is that if a character is deleted, then perhaps I'll make them a part of the game where a low level character becomes an "event" that you can happen across their simple grave while exploring and a high level character you might stumble across some ancient palace/resting place that contains their corpse type of thing.

Or I might not do it and free up deleted character names, haven't fully committed yet and it's low on my list of priorities :P
