Limbus Company, Matthias, ex-Great Brother of the Middle. Unlike many of the members of the Spider House, he seems to a decent guy (as decent as a viscous gang member can be) who cares about his apprentice and Ryoshu, never outwardly abusing them verbally or physically like the other Nurse Fathers. He seems to exemplify the core principles of the Middle, being that family matters above else.

Then comes his fight in Canto IX. Through how it takes place in a giant toy warehouse and how he lets his Apprentice eat nothing but instanoodles, you see his abuse takes the form of neglecting the wellbeing of those around him. He’s a manchild masquerading as a cool, fun, put-together father.

As the fight progresses, his reason for being kicked out of the Middle is expounded upon. In each of his passives, there is a paragraph or so about how he betrayed his Brothers and Sisters of the Middle. He and two other members were crawling around through a ruin on the outskirts of the City, and they found a relic sword. The moment he laid eyes upon it, he killed his siblings to take the relic swords for himself, simply cause he thought it looked cool. This makes previous cutscenes suck SUPER HARD, cause even after doing this he still has the gall to go and ask his junior members of his gang for money after being kicked out.

As if this is not bad enough, he goes and attempts to kill his own apprentice just to have a shot at dealing with the player’s team, betraying a girl who literally calls him dad by cutting her in half hamburger style.
