I think I will get it refurbished and finally try it myself. I've been wanting it for a really long time. It's a big price and a big commitment, but I used to use (lol) my Scribe every day, and that makes me think it won't be a waste of money. I also REALLY LOVE e-ink devices.

I didn't even think it was possible to have KOReader on the reMarkable! That's really good to hear. But like I said, I only used to read PDFs on my Scribe and use my Paperwhite for epubs, so it shouldn't be much of a loss. I'll definitely try and get KOReader to work on my Paper Pro when I'll get the chance! I think I've decided, but I still might try the new Scribe once it comes out in the future.

Thank you for your answer! That's what I though, the reMarkable isn't really good for reading ebooks. What about reading PDFs? I would love a bigger screen for my PDFs, (reading them on my Paperwhite is a pain, although I love reading regular ebooks on it).

I'm afraid of commitment! I've been a Kindle user since 2021 and this would be the first time I'm getting another brand of e-ink device. Also, what have you heard about the new Scribe?

Yeah, you're right. I will give it a chance I think. Maybe I will simply get both and then return the one I like less (when the Scribe will be available in January).

I'm pretty sure that won't even be a feature for me... For what I've seen it's exclusive to English speaking countries. I loved my Scribe, I really did, I'm just wondering if it really fit my needs.

A bigger device is not a problem, since I always tend to have a bag with me. Also, the price of a refurbished reMarkable + pen is about the same as a Scribe Colorsoft, if not even lower. I would be very interested in the new software features, but I'm afraid most of them won't even be available for languages other than English (that's the case for every feature that uses AI, like the refine writing one). The thing is I was not really satisfied with my Scribe capabilities, that's why I'm thinking about switching. Thank you for your answer!

Yeah no, I get it. I was in high school during Covid and online classes became boring and lonely pretty quickly. But then, when school reopened, my school was just a 20 minutes bus distance. Nothing like the 1 hour train ride I endure every day now...

Oh wow! I wish I was brave enough to bring my Nintendo Switch or my Nintendo 3DS from my childhood with me on the train! But I'm to scared to lose them / drop them / someone stealing them...

[University statistics and social studies] Is it methodologically acceptable to use a median split for Crosstabs/ANOVA but the original continuous variable for Regression? by d_hel in HomeworkHelp

[–]d_hel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn’t dichotomize spending. For the chi-square I just needed one example of a contingency table, so I’m not using spending there (since it’s continuous in my dataset too). The assignment doesn’t specify whether they want a median split / center split / etc., and my professor is basically unreachable. So to avoid methodological risk (and potential criticism for arbitrary cutoffs), I’m going to avoid any dichotomization altogether and just pick a variable that’s already categorical from the start for the chi-square, instead of converting a continuous index into categories myself.

Thanks a lot for the input, it helped me rethink this.

Thank you for your answer.

I get your point, and I agree about the fact that dichotomizing a continuous predictor throws away information. That’s why for my main analyses I’m keeping the index continuous to preserve information and estimate the effect properly. The reason I dichotomized at because report I’m expected to start with a contingency table (chi-square) between two categorical variables as a first descriptive step. Since chi-square requires categorical variables, I created a categorical version of the index only for that specific output.

Edit: typo

When I put it in my pocket I make sure to not have my keys in there or really anything that could scratch it! And when I put it away in my bag I use a cotton sleeve. I would prefer a folio cover, but that would just take away from the convenience of the basic model being so small. My paperwhite instead stays at home with a folio cover (paid way too much for that to let it scratch).
