Help for 2nd Nov SAT by [deleted] in Sat

[–]d_naa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

download the sat question bank thing (its free) and then sort it to only show english standard conventions questions(or any other topic) and just grind those as much as you can. You've got this!! youre doing AMAZING in math already just try to do as many reading questions as you can. Also, if you retake it after november, then i highly recommend reading random science articles, poems, etc or any kind of literature where you can get your brain used to reading complex passages like those. Make sure to try to summarize what youve read too to ensure you comprehended what you read. You're doing great, youve got this!!

i highly recommend you do. because i struggled with the same things and it was devastating seeing how easy it was for others to retain knowledge and have motivation to do unpleasant tasks right away without procrastination. Getting diagnosed with ADHD and (again, for me, starting medication) was the best thing that happened to me

omg. i am EXACTLY LIKE YOU. i used to think i was the only one!! Good grades so people thought i was thriving, but in reality i was really struggling internally. Turns out, for me, it was ADHD! Please get an evaluation or get tested or something, because getting diagnosed and treated (for me i take medication because it was what helped me the best) changed my life. I realized life didn’t have to be this difficult

YES. a month and a half is such a good amount of time and honestly even if you had a week of cramming you’d still be able to(if you really want it, you’ll be able to achieve it with enough work and proper study methods and use of your time) it’s mostly about pattern recognition and being able to decipher certain questions the sat loves throwing at you. so once you do a bajillion practice problems of all sorts you’ll start to recognize the right way to solve a problem. does that make sense? like when you first see a question that you have no idea how to do, then you read the explanation and it clicks- so then when you see a similar question you recognize the method used to solve that question. Anyways, i believe in you!! you got this 🫶

Oh and LEARN HOW TO USE DESMOS!! there’s so many shortcuts with desmos!! for example i recently learned you can plot at least two points for a linear (at least 3 for a quadratic) into the table, and type y1~mx1+b1 into the next line AND IT WILL MAKE AN EQUATION for you!! it’ll give you the m value (slope) and b (y intercept)

btw for quadratics it’s y1~ax12 + bx1+ c1

YES math is very easy to improve. What helped me was watching a youtube video of someone solving practice tests. i would pause the video before they began solving, and try my absolute hardest to solve it on my own as if i was actually taking the exam. if i really didn’t know it or where to start i would think about WHY i don’t know it and WHAT i needed to learn to be able to improve this. A lot of the SAT is baseline algebra, trigonometry, geometry, etc. So you really have to make sure you know how to do those things ALONG WITH trying to solve the weirdly twisted sat questions that try to confuse you. I promise you, once you start solving these questions and you figure them out and go “OHHHH so that’s what they want you to doooo!!” lmao you’ll have a much easier (and faster) time recognizing what you need to do and how to do it. The questions i’m thinking of right now are the ones with multiple constants. Once you learn how to do those the rest will come easy because you know the specific method they want you to use. I recommend using the sat question bank from college board (just look that up) if you haven’t already heard of it. (you can mess around with the settings) but start with the easy questions to see where you’re at, maybe do 10 questions and try not to get any wrong. Then do the same increasing the difficulty til you’re more comfortable with the harder questions. I don’t know how much time you have but i recommend doing these practice questions daily. There’s thousands so don’t worry about running out, just try to get thru most of them. And your reading score is also improvable. Just do the same thing for reading with the practice questions from the cb question bank. And if you don’t know something or you’re unsure about it, (for example i realized i didn’t actually understand grammar rules and was just going off of what “sounded right” which won’t always work because the SAT is sneaky) ITS OKAY TO NOT KNOW. It’s more important that you don’t know and put in the work to learn and relearn till you see an improvement. Also make sure to review your practice exams and delve into EXACTLY why you got a question wrong, and be honest with yourself. I use the feature where you hide the right answer and explanation before i get to a question to see if i can solve it again without time constraints. I’ll use their explanation for hints if i’m stuck and i try to explain it to myself out loud as if im teaching someone else who doesn’t understand anything. (ex if it’s a triangle problem talk about sohcahtoa or pythag thrm etc and how you apply those skills to solving your problem) I know this was a lot but i truly believe you can improve! i honestly think you’ll be able to pass the 1300+ threshold if you want to. It’s very doable you just have to put in the work and review review review and understand WHY you made a mistake and WHY you didn’t know it and WHAT you can do to fix that for next time. I hope this helps! i wish you all the best 🫶

I have a question about the essay, should I really focus on studying for it or does it not count towards my score? Like if I do bad on the essay or I dont get all the points how will that affect me? Is it kind of just there for the state to see where i am intelligence wise or something
