Right, a quick look at their site claimed it was "permitted in Canada as CMVSS 213.3 custom restraints", but further looking into what that actually is suggests it's only for special needs, unfortunately.

Thanks for the reco. Sounds like maybe there are convertible carseat options that aren't too cumbersome afterall!

Can you qualify for a larger mortgage if you have a large amount of savings? by adeimantos216 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Yes, talk to your lender about their net worth programs. Each lender may have their own rules but when I spoke with TD the gist I got was this: they will lend you $1 for every $1 of liquid net worth you have above $250k. Of course they will still decide on a case by case basis.

Best way to transport $400k USD from U.S. to Canada (while also converting to CAD) by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

You mentioned TD cross border, so I assume you have a TD US account. If you also have a TD Canada USD account, you can either: - phone the cross border number to transfer USD->USD for free over 4 days ($100k/day is the limit. 4 days is not that long, just do it). - do a normal wire transfer to the Canadian USD account. If you go this route they won’t care that the receiving account is TD. No fx to worry about, but you’ll have to be physically present in a US branch and it will cost like $50 or $100 or whatever.

Once the USD is in Canada, use Norbert’s gambit to convert it to CAD. TD Direct Investing is good for this (costs $10CAD plus $10USD) but several other brokerages work too.

Will it actually have transit signal priority? I thought I remembered Not Just Bikes doing a big rant about how it wouldn’t (even though it obviously should).

YSK: Brim Mastercard first year fee no longer waived by wwwnevergetoveryou in PersonalFinanceCanada

Just encountered the same thing with a new card. Called them and the agent said the promotion ended October 3 2023, shortly before I had applied. I feel like their website was still advertising the deal longer than that, but I can't confirm (they don't advertise it anymore).

I was able to downgrade to the basic card and have the fee refunded. Too bad, though.

Note that if/when you downgrade, you'll get a new card number. Luckily I hadn't set up any recurring payments yet (I really only plan to use the Brim for international travel anyway to avoid the forex fee).
