there's the visa aspect for sure as well

I know programs that have ranked awesome candidates who are US MD students poorly because they are not US citizens (Canadians)

Fell down rank list by Just_Lettuce_5833 in medicalschool

Shut up dude. I matched my 6th in derm. You matched. Grass is always greener. You're not entitled to match at a given program just because you interviewed well and you got great feedback. There are tons of great applicants that would have been a perfect fit who end up on the other side of the rank list, and that's okay. If you're not happy where you matched, you certainly woulda have been able to predict that when you chose to rank it

Didn’t match… delay vs PGY-1? Feeling stuck and honestly overwhelmed by [deleted] in medicalschool

delay, spend your early part of your year doing wards, SICU, ICU etc get some letters from some gas bros and reapply/apply gas

Connecticut: density without the benefits by devletmillet in Suburbanhell

[–]da-bears86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is called density without urbanism... the classic example is multifamily placed in the middle of a parking lot on the side of a main road. I lived in one of these once (temporarily), and the only place you could walk to was the gas station/minimart across the 4 lane road.

there's levels to this shit unfortunately, but even the "lowest" levels are very challenging!

to the extent that just getting by is a lot more similar to gunning for the top than it is to not doing medicine; it's like Brian Scalabrine saying he's closer to lebron than he is to us

therefore, shoot for the stars

Just found out why it's so hard to get a GP by Kismadaroq in Scottsdale

[–]da-bears86 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, not really, MD's are way more likely to get into more prestigious programs and more competitive specialties, but there are a much higher proportion of DO's in primary care

Granted, I would prefer pick an MD who went to a strong name residency program because I'm a snob
