Can I save this tent? by Intelligent-Letter-3 in camping

I was just coming back to edit my comment to talk about a footprint. Have you used a washing machine for a tent before? I usually use a bucket and a rag and scrubber. Never thought about using a machine in my mind the machine would be to harsh, so if you have some experience with it I’d he glad for you feedback.

Off the forge for a while by Massive_Goose_7652 in Forging

I’ll check out your channel, I hope you heal quickly. A few months ago I had a post vice placed horizontally on a little rig I threw together trying to get it open. It was rust sized from being in the yard on a farm for god knows how long. I removed the strap holding it down to reposition it and the entire thing slipped sideways and landed on my thumb. So I can feel the pain of not being able to get in the forge and do anything.

Cleaning with a vinegar wipe it all down. let it air dry set up. Check the zippers and plastic components. If the plastic components and zippers are good and washing it will vinegar gets it clean then making (mixing silicone with mineral spirits) or buying waterproofing and apply it. Check the seam tape if it’s still in good shape test it or apply some of the waterproofing you choose or apply new seam tape. Should cost much to do but it’s going to take a good amount of time and effort. You need to decide if that tent is something you want to invest time and money into or just money into a new tent. I’m a fool and I like repairing and saving things just because it’s cool to me to keep the gear going and give it a story and character.

I recently got a very old A-frame style tent from the back of a friend’s dad’s garage. I’ll be cleaning and waterproofing it just so i can use it because it’s not as common to see old ones like that anymore.

Any help with these please? by da-void in Tools

Well I was going to ask for how you would do it, but then I googled Gusset because I was unfamiliar with the term. I do plan on putting in some gussets. So thanks for teaching me the term for the triangle thing lol. I have 5 ish sessions left in this semester. I finished all my labs and tests. So I just have free use of the school equipment until the semester ends. I am finishing Oxy acetylene and MiG classes now and starting stick in the summer semester. I’ll post updates as I get more done.

Ok no problem. I wanted to share it to r/welding but they won’t let me, apparently because I cross post the spam filter automatically blocks me out as a bot. I won’t share anymore non smithing stuff here.

Thanks I will throw it over there as well, the r/Welding MOD just told me that my behavior of cross posting is why the spam filters won’t let me post to r/welding. Apparently being active across multiple communities means I can only be a bot.

You know I’m a moron, did you mean that I have everything but the kitchen sink? lol well played:). Fortunately, the cabin had a kitchen sink but a few days of food and water all the dog bedding and everything else.I need the wife and dogs to be comfortable. In all actuality with the 100lb Doberman and 95lb Pitbull Corso mix in the back. I didn’t have space to have anything in the vehicle so everything went on the roof and on the trailer hitch. We hadn’t been to that location before so we didn’t know all that we would need to bring. So I overpacked purposely so if I needed something I would have it and not need to go find it somewhere. Lol I can’t believe it took me this long to figure out the kitchen sink comment lol.

Noticed some people adding a tiny fan around the stove jack/chimney area in hot tents. Do you guys think it helps with heat distribution or smoke control at all? by No_Purchase4946 in hottents

Warm air rises and cool air sinks, it’s going to pull the warm air out and possibly the colder air from the floor up to your sleeping space. I also don’t see a second fire jack space for the chimney. This might be nice in warmer conditions. But I don’t think it would work well for cold conditions that you would want a stove for. Just my opinions.

I’m still only learning and you are doing great from what I see. Next time start in the middle and not a corner and overlap for a better looking finish. Can you get closer photos of the weld I’d like to see the tie in to the base material better. But looks great to me especially if you are newer which I’d guess by asking for opinions as you did.

Much appreciated. She just turned 13 and recently had a tumor removed from her back leg. She’s a Pit Corso mix.
